ADL Says Hitler Ad Should Never Have Appeared on MoveOn.org

NEW YORK, Jan. 5 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today said it was deeply troubled that MoveOn.org had allowed an outrageous and highly offensive political ad that directly compared President George W. Bush to Adolf Hitler to be posted on its Web site.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director and author of "Never Again: The Threat of the New Anti-Semitism," issued the following statement:

It is shocking that a mainstream political group like MoveOn.org not only allowed this vile and outrageous comparison of the American President to Adolf Hitler to be entered into its "Bush in 30 Seconds" contest in the first place, but that they even went so far as to make it available to the public on the Internet. Those responsible for this contest at MoveOn.org should have immediately identified this advertisement as one going far beyond beyond legitimate criticism and rejected it out of hand. Instead, they made an irresponsible decision that has given legitimacy to the explotative manipulation of images in a campaign season.

MoveOn.org clearly would not have accepted a pornographic ad as legitimate criticism of a candidate. Why did they think that images of Hitler, the Nazi whose evil regime was responsible for the slaughter of millions of people during the Holocaust, was a fitting and credible expression of criticism of President Bush and his policies? Their lack of descretion cheapens the level of political discourse in America, and their comments explaining it were hardly comforting.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in 1913, is the world's leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice and bigotry.

Foxman has already gone after Soros, calling the latter's blaming of Jew for anti-Semitism "absolutely obscene."

Not only is the comparison of Bush to Hitler ridiculously inappropriate, even for those who hate Bush, but the hardcore left seem to be internalizing these kinds of grandiose, nuclear put-downs to the point that they now are certifiably insane.

For instance, just a few months ago if a lefty had been confronted about a Bush-Hitler quip, and challenged whether Bush had tried to commit genocide and tortured and starved millions of people, he/she would have slunk away mumbling. But today, these intellectual giants on the left have repeated their own lies and whoppers to themselves until they can't tell truth from political invective.

Just today, on 'that other website', there are threads about just this comparison. More and more of them are now saying 'no, Bush hasn't killed 6 million people or committed bizarre medical experiments on twins yet, but give him time, he will. Hitler also started out small. The comparison is completely appropriate'

As much as the left's collective psychosis disturbs me, if they continue on this bizarre path, conservatives should have an easy time getting reelected in 2004.

Sure about that?

Will someone other than Fox give this some air time?

There have been lots of pictures posted right here on FR equating Howard Dean with Adolph Hitler. This sort of thing has been going on for a long time, I've seen political cartoons from the early 1900's that are appalling by even today's standards.

It's wonderful that MoveOn.org accepted and published this ad. Without the Republicans doing anything, it shows what a bunce of evil mental whack jobs they are, and does more to alienate average voters than anything Republicans could publish.

I think Dean definitely has an affiliation with MOVE-ON. As a matter of fact I think they are backing Dean if I am not mistaken. I am not sure about Clark. I know the DNC is pushing Clark - I am not sure about Move On. I don't like going on their website for any reason so I can't be sure unless the newpapers say so. But I am positive about Dean.

"The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today said it was deeply troubled . . .

I didn't know Tom Daschle was part of the ADL."

LOL!

Foxman has already gone after Soros, calling the latter's blaming of Jew for anti-Semitism "absolutely obscene."

This can work to our favor. A reporter need only ask Lieberman what his position is on all this now for all hell to break loose. Lieberman could make an easily understood stand with the ADL, the Wiesenthal Center and others and make Dean look really bad right now. No matter how it pans out, we win. MoveOn.org gets discredited either way and Soros' investment goes up in smoke.

We're not taking donations on behalf of Bush though are we? Dean has urged his supporters to support this MoveOn site. Let's take the various SIGs at their word. These advertisements are anti-semitic. Therefore, Dean supports anti-semiticism by supporting this site. Carry the calculus further. Dean is supportive of Saddam and Osama (he's said as much) and he's anti-semitic. He's basically an agent for the jihadist terrorists. I say Lieberman ought to roast his ass for this and we roast the dems by default.

Therefore Dean is running a campaign based on anti-semiticism (ironically- the advertisements are about Hitler).
There's no way to lose with pressing this thing.

The beauty is- the dems do not understand why this will backfire:

Read it for yourself. They truly do not understand how this is repulsive to most people. This is the state of the dem party today. We need only administer the coup de grace.

Abraham H. Foxman, ADL national director ...

However, most of our members will still support ANY Democrap before they would support President Bush!

It doesn't matter. Joe Lieberman is a Jew. Dean is the front runner. Dean supported these anti- semitic ads. In other words Dean is anti-semitic. If Joe pushes this Dean is toast and so is Clark (and with Clark- Hillary).

It is alarming that so many on the Left are so enamored of Mr. Hitler that they constantly compare people to him.

Yeah, I know. Bizarre. So far Bush has led the liberation of 50 million people from genuinely and literally fascistic governments, yet he'll emerge as a real Hitler any day now. Uh, huh.

As much as the left's collective psychosis disturbs me, if they continue on this bizarre path, conservatives should have an easy time getting reelected in 2004.

I hear you. They've done grave damage to the nation -- and to the cause of liberal civilization generally -- but they've done even greater damage to themselves, diminishing the effectiveness of their longterm, incremental campaign of socialism and erosion of national sovereignty and individual liberty. One doesn't know whether to cry or laugh.

Granted. But there is a real and significant difference between individual freepers making such comparisons, usually in a satirical spirit and in the midst of freewheeling discussion and, say, the FreeRepublic Network doing so, or even contemplating doing so. Have you seen the MoveOn commercial? There is nothing at all satirical or (intentionally) bombastic about it. It is clearly presented in all earnestness and seriousness.

Now that's something I wouldn't mind seeing a thousand times over.

I loved that, comparing neocons to Nazis while ignoring a) the illegal, activist-type activity by liberal judges the last few years, b) the socialist programs instituted by the Nazi regime, and c) the overall totalitarian tactics used by the modern Democratic Party.
