Yeah, but they also indicated the Dem candidate in Oklahoma is moderate to conservative.

Agree that Bush landslide is likely; even Dukakis and Mondale looked stronger going in.

...unless the Dean supporters stay home. That's the key. If the Dem primary remains as vitriolic as it is now, and goes on for much longer than expected, then it won't matter who wins. A large splinter of the party will stay home come November 2 because of the rancor left by the primary -- no matter which Dem finally wins.
Personally, I expect the pundits to be just as surprised at the depth of the Pubbie win in 2004, if not more so, as they were in 2002.

We forget to look at the big picture sometimes. Thanks for bringing it all back into focus.

I think Janet Napalitano would be an awful choice for VP. Seriously, can you imagine the debates with Dick Cheney? She will seem like the hugest lightweight.

This would be fun to watch for everyone (excepting the dimocrates, that is!)

Ideally, the Dems will field a lame candidate so Bush can dump cash and effort into the Senate races.
Bush may hardly need to campaign for himself against a lightweight like Dean. Dean is his own worst enemy.
To: winner3000
In a recent national poll,Gebphart was closest to beating Bush.He was within 7 points.
It's early days and I take nothing for granted. The rest I believe were 12 points to more behind,Dean would be a disaster according to this poll for the dems(keep it under your hat!)

Pubbies don't need 60 to end Dim obstruction. They just need a few more (55 is probably enough) to vote to change the rules (excluding judges from filibuster) at the start of the next Congress. Right now, they don't have the votes because McCain, Snowe, and others won't support changing them in mid-stream. However, because it would be the start of a new Congress, I think they could get the votes if they had a bit more margin.

Gephardt hails from St. Louis MO,
which might seem southern to some,
but it's midwestern heartland not
far from border-state territory.
He isn't a centrist at all, and
he sounds mean & is known just to
make stuff up. At times, tho, he
can appear to be Tom Sawyer & a
Boy Scout combined. A mixed bag.
Boring as can be, a has-been, not
a compelling national leader, and
a union/party hack.
GWB can take him in the South. And
the MW would be tougher but a win.

Thune is going to run against Daschle:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1041750/posts "I do not get why the GOP cannot run someone competitive in Illinois and Arkansas."
Jack Ryan is the best possible candidate the GOP can send up in Illinois. Ryan will also likely run against a weak underfunded Democrat in Maria Pappas or Obama. The strongest Rat, Chris Hynes, is behind in the polls fortunately.
I agree that Arkansas has been a disapointment. A definite safe Democrat seat.

Only if the redistricting in Texas passes the courts. However, that is likely.

"The 5 southern Democrat retirements are the GOP's to lose - and that's just the start."
GOP will pick up at least 4 of the 5 open Senate seats in the South. Rove is going to clear the field for Mel Martinez in Florida and Martinez will whip Peter Deutsch in the General.
"Reid in Nevada is beatable"
State Treasurer Brian Krolicki has formed an exploratory Campaign committee to run against Reid. If Krolicki runs then we've got a 50-50 shot at winning, probably an even better chance considering Dubya will have Mega-Coattails in Nevada.
"So is Lincoln in Arkansas and Murray in Washington."
Lincoln is safe, Murray is not.
"We need to encourage JC Watts to step up to the Senate and hold onto Nickles' seat."
Humphreys is already leading Carson in Oklahoma and the field has been cleared for him. Safe GOP.

"Janet Napalitano as VP. She has certainly F'edU Arizona by ignoring laws and doing what she damn well pleases."
JD Hayworth is going to run against Janet - and he will crush her.
the only problem is that you will have to wait until 2006 for him to win.
