THE PERSECUTION OF RUSH

THE PERSECUTION OF RUSH GOES ON MARK A SITY 12/26/03

Years ago, Brett Favre had a problem with pain killers. He was buying them illegally after a prescription ran out for after an injury that still hurt. He became addicted. After the news came out, he apologized to his fans, went into treatment, and all was right with the world. Not a soul seems to be interested in investigating Ozzy Osbourne’s drug use, but there might be a reason for this. Ozzy seems to be attempting to prove the theory of evolution by devolving into lower forms of life before our eyes. Ozzie is an interesting scientific experiment.

Yet, Rush Limbaugh is reported to have a problem with an addiction to pain killers, admits it and goes into treatment, and all is still not right with the world. Rumors are reported first that he’s part of a drug ring investigation. Ok, it seems this is true in that his name turned up as a customer. Then rumors were reported that he was buying these prescription pain killers in 1000+ lots. Then rumors were reported that he was involved in selling the drugs (like he really needs the money!). Then it was money laundering. Now he is under investigation for the very serious crime of “DOCTOR SHOPPING”. It seems this is a huge crime in Florida.

This makes me wonder. If I take my family to Florida for a vacation, and our daughter hurts herself, let’s say she hurts her leg. Being from Wisconsin we wouldn’t know who the good FL doctors are and who the quacks are. We’d probably take her to the closest doctor. So let’s say we get Dr Quack. Dr Quack takes her into the X-ray room, and comes out with an X ray showing a hairline fracture in her calf bone. We would assume a leg cast is in order. Dr Quack comes back with not the plaster cart, but a laughing gas cart and then pulls out a big meat saw. Dr Quack tells us he will have to amputate her leg for the hairline fracture. If we decide to take her out of the office (with both legs attached) and look for a second opinion are we in violation of FL law for “DOCTOR SHOPPING”?

I don’t claim to have any inside information on Rush’s situation, but drawing on what he has said, it seems that he had a painful back problem and went to Dr Quack. Dr Quack recommended surgery. Dr Quack messed up the surgery. Dr Quack prescribed a pain killer to Rush for temporary relief of a long term problem. Dr Quack’s prescription ran out on Rush, leaving him in debilitating pain. Rush knew the pain killer could allow him mobility, and Dr Quack offered no option other than permanent debilitating pain for the rest of his natural life. It seems to me that Rush should have been “doctor shopping” a long time ago!

Why is Rush on trial here, without even any charges being filed? Shouldn’t Dr Quack be the one being investigated for leading an innocent victim down the path of lawlessness and drug use? Where is the AMA? Could it be that they, along with the press have an anti-Rush agenda? Nah, couldn’t be. If I believed that I’d be one of the black helicopter conspiracy types then, wouldn’t I?

"Please, what does this have to do with prosecutors obtaining and leaking private medical information"

When did this happen ... where is this private information?

Enquiring Minds want to Know ?

There has been no leaking of information. Rush put his own foot in his mouth to millions as the heat was coming around the corner. What is the best way to back the heat off? Give your sob story to millions and when you come to court say, "hey I did go to rehab by the way" "You did see that on the news didn't you?" "I did admit I had a problem."
"But your honor you must see that I have repented who cares how I got the narcotics as long as I have been reformed in rehab that should count right?" "Your Honor?"

When my fourteen year old daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis some years ago, I took her to five different doctors before finding one she agreed to let treat her. That qualifies as doctor shopping. We did the same thing when she needed foot surgery-- went to four different doctors before she was satisfied.

Why couldn't the charges be reduced for him like they are for others? I don't know what charge he might get but surely there must be some misdemeanor charge he could plead to and get a fine and community service. There is no way he should lose his voting privileges.

"A crime is a crime is a crime is a crime....It is all relative you know?"

You're brilliant. The relative sentence for the coke dealer shoving stuff up your kid's nose, AND for a pain afflicted user of prescription drugs should be exactly the same? LOL...

I'd love to see the court room you preside over when Bin Laden gets caught. You'll stick him in the same cell as a jaywalker.

What happened to the conservative concept of accepting responsibility for your own actions?

Now that the truth about Rush is out, its all a sinister plot by the VLWC to get Rush.

Give me a break.

Rush was a junkie buying dope from low life criminals who ratted him out, period.

He should act like a man and be responsible for his own actions instead of whining about how the mean lefties are out to get him.

Rush sounds a lot like Bill Clinton lately.

How could you miss that?

I didn't miss a thing. The article I was commenting on stated the Doctor who gave Rush the Rx were victimizing Rush.

Here's the comment I was commenting on.

Shouldn’t Dr Quack be the one being investigated for leading an innocent victim down the path of lawlessness and drug use?

You can sleep easily now that it is clear I didn't crawl out of a spider hole in Tikrit.

I didn't see ol El rushbo wincing in pain as he strolled all over the nation's golf courses swinging clubs. And oh it was his back....Wasn't it? I thought it was his back he said hurt him the most. He took them out of enjoyment, he enjoyed the drug, the high, just like a coke addict they too enjoy the high. Pain afflicted...soooo pain afflicted that you play a sport in which you use your back the most.

I'm suggesting that when you sh*t, worry about wiping your own @ss.

What makes you think I am worring about cleaning up after anyone but myself?

As I stated to some other party that picked up on this bogus notion that I should mind my own business.

I take responsibility for my actions and I was not mouthing off about how everyone else should. I'm sure you can figure out there is a difference between stealing a pencil or breaking the speed limit and what Rush is accused of doing.

I hope

If he is innocent, then that's great. If this is a witch hunt then Rush has the means for a massive civil suit, and should sue the state of Fl. until it weeps for mercy.

I really like Rush, but this kind of publicity comes with the territory if you're going to be a big time conservative talk personally and wind up in a drug scandal. If he walked the talk he would not be in this mess. He created it and he gets to clean it up. Life ain't fair. Not even for Rush.

You're lucky I'm not your boss. I'd figure that you didn't have enough to do and would send you home or fire you.

But that isn't the issue. The issue is that while casting stones at others, you are being dishonest yourself.

He "started out", saying he knew he did wrong (not in those exact words, but he admitted to his addiction, and took full responsibility) and said he would co-operate fully with the investigation.

An investigation is what they're doing, and he is directing his lawyer to challenge the legal release of crucial evidence in that investigation.

He didnt start screaming "presecution", untill after all of these allegations (Doctor shopping, money laundering, etc.) were leaked to the press

Fine, we can all complain about a smear campaign, but all of you are calling the prosecution aspect of this "persecution."

Wouldn't you love that. Have an innocent man plea bargain (read: plead guilty to a lesser charge) for a crime that he didnt commit.

I did earlier qualify that with if he is indeed guilty. But then letting the DA see the medical records could easily show his innocence on the doctor shopping charge. We already know he's guilty on the structuring charge (what you call "money laundering") because he admitted it.

It depends on who the prosecutor is and what his motivations are. It seems this prosecutor wants to bury Rush under the jail even if Rush walked into his office with an offer of a plea bargain.

No way the DA could get away with it. IIRC, first offense doctor shopping is only a misdemeanor in the first place, and the structuring was not done for the purpose of money laundering and it's likely he didn't know it was illegal since he was doing it at the bank's suggestion. Since he's not otherwise a criminal and has already admitted addiction and cleaned up his act it's likely he wouldn't get more than probation in a trial anyway.

I thought this was such a simple thing to understand. Reminds me of Barbara Striesand chasticing those who drive SUV's then rolls up in her Ford Explorer.
