Thank heavens I have a stock of fruit cake on hand. With a single case, you could live for months! If you call that living...
To: Catspaw
Just intimated it isn't specifically targeted for NY and DC.

All I heard about the Fed Ex plane was that no one was killed.

Ok, please explain how tom Ridge could 'close the borders'. Also, explain how it is the only threat to the US comes from outside the borders. What about hte cells uncovered in Buffalo and Portland. How would closing the borders eliminate the threat of a terrorist attack here?
To: At _War_With_Liberals
Let us suppose that we have a phone tap on a terrorist cell and we have heard plans to bomb a shopping mall. We don't know which one. We don't know who all the cell members are, nor where many of them live.
Now, if we say we heard on a phone tap plans to bomb a shopping mall, two things would happen: 1. The terrorists would know their phone is tapped and immediately switch to another form of communication. 2. They would switch from targetting a shopping mall to targetting another site, such as a football stadium filled with fans.
Ridge cannot be too specific because of these types of reactions by the terrorists.

"All I heard about the Fed Ex plane was that no one was killed." Thanks. All I saw was it burning to a crisp on the run-way.

"This is a Nanny State, with its cradle to grave welfare. It needs to become masculine again and protect us by closing the borders, expelling the illegals, and arming all the pilots."
You are right! The problem is MANY Americans won't even have a gun, much less say the word "gun". It's crazy.

The target or targets could be any large city. Or even a medium sized city. Heck, who knows.
I've become suddenly nervous about the Packers playing at Oakland tomorrow night--and it's not about the Pack needing to win the game.

When asked about going to red, Sec. Ridge had a very long pause - not a good sign.

I was hoping they had the specific. I've only been hearing about the countries at large. Hopefully they know more.

Per your graphic, I think they would wait until the alert hits red before they would consider closing the borders.
That should have been done on 9-11-01. Today, even would be better than the current non-action.

My guess is that the alert to truckers (
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1044321/posts )is just ONE of several alerts that went out, that one just happened to hit the media.
I do think from what I read in various places that we have a highest risk of threat now, than anytime since 9-11. Also consider that AQ is very meticulous in planning their attacks, and they take 1-2 years to set it up "right", and it has been a little over two years since 9-11.
Hopefully the added vigilance will foil their attack, but if they are planning several simultaneous attacks, something may slip through.

Heard that.Although facing the pc and not the tv,didn't hear the immediate "no" I was expecting.

LOL...I am SURE they know MORE!

the one thing that give me some optimism: I would imagine that at some point, if this was more then just "chatter", you would see round-up style arrests of all of the people being watched here in the US by the FBI, similar to what happened after 9/11. they couldn't just leave these people on the street and just continue to monitor them, they would have to arrest them and start drugging them to spill the information.

He has a very tough job, answering these kinds of questions without being able to say anything specific for fear of causing panic for what might be a hoax or a ruse pumped into the intel stream to be picked up as "chatter".I agree-as far as PR goes, Ridge is in "no-win" situation
The important things are going on under the radar.
I think it credible that they have stopped planned attacks since 9-11 so apparently they're doing a good job.
But they can't stop them all, of course.
