the one thing that give me some optimism: I would imagine that at some point, if this was more then just "chatter", you would see round-up style arrests of all of the people being watched here in the US by the FBI, similar to what happened after 9/11. they couldn't just leave these people on the street and just continue to monitor them, they would have to arrest them and start drugging them to spill the information.

I agree. As it is, they are acting symbolically and trying to dissuade any terrorism. It's showtime at Homeland Security.
