I do mind when people act like paying attention is foolish.

When we are admonished to "Be vigilent." without ANY specifics at all, that's just plain moronic, and "respecting" that is moronic by association. Anyone giving a "warning" as useless at that deserves all the mockery that can be brought to bear on them.

Thank you for being the voice of reason, rather than some of the idiotic comments posted here from some who claim this is done so we will feel "scared". Nobody in this administration has ever said or even hinted that such should be our reaction to an elevated alert.

I don't know about you but I am weary of these nebulous alerts. It's hard to take these elevated alerts seriously. WHY can't people who PAY the salaries of these security folks know WHAT is going on?

After awhile they become a joke. If you doubt me, look at the comments here. People are laughing at the elevated alert because they don't mean anything. There is nothing specific attached to them. I think they are stupid because of their vagueness. You know darn well that who ever pushed that they be elevated had something specific in mind.

Surely they don't think we'll become hysterical or something. You know, if that is the situation, - when you treat someone like a child they act like one after a while.

Are you so obtuse that you need someone to TELL you what suspicious activity is? Personally, I don't need instructions from the government. My husband and I have reported suspicious activity to the FBI three times since September 11, 2001. The FBI took our reports seriously and I hope we helped make our area more secure.

If you see a Middle Eastern male taking pictures of a water treatment plant or a dam, will you simply ignore it, since no one has TOLD you what to look for? Personally, I am smarter than that.

Because we all know more terrorism can, and for some, likely will happen again in America. I personally see no reason to run around the neighborhood yelling ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh in panic. We do take it seriously. We can keep our sense of humor though.

The only one suggesting the response to an elevated alert should be "panic" and running around "yelling ahhhhhhhhhhhhh" is YOU and some like-minded posters here. Not the administration.

Terror Alert to Truckers

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security along with the American Trucking Associations has issued a warning to all motor carriers warning of a possible terrorist attack involving the trucking industry in the Lake Erie region.

A report distributed to trucking companies in the region on both sides of the border, states DHS has made "observations over the last months, increasing in frequency over recent weeks, of certain types of activity that may represent the characteristic operational acts of active terrorist planning."

According to Today's Truckers, possibilities include the involvement of fuel and chemical tanker operations, or in the vicinity of fuel and chemical production and storage facilities and terminals in the Lake Erie area, as well as North and South Carolina.

All companies with such operations are being asked to review perimeter and access security procedures and effectiveness, and report any suspicious activity.
