"I couldn't help but be left with the inference that a jump straight to code red was given very serious consideration by these guys during those 72 hours of deliberation."

I tend to agree that they have some specific threat info -- but in a way, that's good, because the more specific info they have, the more likely they are to hopefully foil the attack. Did anyone else notice the timing that
"LIBYA provided intelligence on hundreds of al-Qaeda and other Islamic militants,"
and the terror alert is raised?
I think it's quite possible that Kadafi provided us with some important info about the impending terror attacks.

There are a couple of likely targets, about many others: Rose Bowl and the Rose Parade.

but if we can think this up, so can the administration. no way they go public with Bush until it all comes out in the wash. I agree about Quadafi. how old is he now? this whole thing could be a ruse on his part, I don't think he cares whether he lives or dies at this point in his life.

Living in Nashville, I think I'll be safe as long as the terrorists don't hate country music. :)
To: Pegita
Pegita, you have this wonderful way of bringing us back where we need to be.

I missed the conference too. Probably just as well because I'd have been on this thread getting ticked off at those who seem to see the worst in people rather than the best. It's one of the many reasons I so like this president and entire administration. They prefer to see the good in people and lift them up rather than tear people down.
And if something happens, we'll all be crying. I was alone on 9/11 as my husband left at 5:00 in the morning to poll manage. It was terrifying.
As far as Gulf War I, my stepson was over there and we were very frightened then as well. But proud. And no one knew we were scared as my husband and I only told each other about our fears. We believe strongly that parents must put up a good front for the kids; something that doesn't seem to happen today as often as it should.

That's an interesting tidbit. Did he specifically say he wanted to minimize his time in NYC? Did he seem more stressed about it than usual? Just curious.

Libya may have just sold out terrorists around the world.I have thought this from the moment the news broke about Libya. The negotiations began about the time the war started and concluded within a week of capturing Saddam. It was sell out or be sold out.
To: FairOpinion
not enough time to validate whether the tips were truthful, or lies designed as a misdirection play on his part.
To: oceanview
Well, knowing what a sly fox the Bush admin has been, I'm sure they have the entire thing planned out with Tony Blair. Perhaps they were hoping this announcement would stall any attacks. I guess they only know for sure. But if you're Qaddafi, you might just be nutty enough to wait until another strong Republican is in office to exact revenge.

Take better care and get that rest young lady ;)

He's been in negotiation for six mos., which means he had to have sold the stuff before then. Yet this new alert is just happening now. Why would the terrists hold onto the stuff if they got it months ago?

ok, if that be the case, we ought to start seeing alot of stories about captures all over the world. now we did have a flurry of those stories a few weeks ago, who knows if they were tied to Libyan provided information.
To: Semper Paratus
The last time I was worried about an attack bill was in china of all places. 9-11 he was in Australia.
And wasn't Al Gore in Italy or France? ("Not that there's anything wrong with that.")

Been monitoring this thread all day. We fly out of Montana tomorrow to go to Wisconsin to visit kids and grandkids. Took your advice, and made hubby and me Manhattans-- a drink we havne't had in a long time--and we'll finish with prayers. ( if we don't have more than one--) but the first couple sips taste wonderful!)-- think it's called a Rob Roy with the scotch.
Be safe everyone, and have a wonderful Christmas!
To: Dolphy
Exactly. Libya may have rolled over for the bigger fish to fry. They admit what they've done and provide the US and UK with intel to get the terrorists. Let's hope all bets are off if something happens here in the States, and Dubya and Blair go postal on Libya.
To: Pubbie
I also believe Ridge needs to go as head of DHS
