"Do you honestly believe that this in all about politics? Do you honestly believe that there is no merit in raising the threat level and this administration is that shallow?"

No.

Thanks for the link. Sometimes when something in going on in "your neck of the woods" it will hit the local news before it hits the national (Fox, MSNBC) news.

That is one of the coolest aspects of FR, it pulls news from every local.

Oddly enough I too was in elementary school in N.O. during the Cuban crisis.

Small world...maybe we crossed paths - literally! I went to Westgate Elementary, right next to St. Lawrence. This was actually in Kenner. We did the 'duck and cover' but it probably wouldn't have made a world of difference as the whole back wall was louvered glass!

Thanks for the clarification. I must have misread something. Not the first time, and probably won't be my last.

No had surgery and the Dr, his staff and me all had the flu five days post op. They cancelled me to get my staples out and when I did get in the next day I was still chillin and feverish (I am a never get the flu person had it twice this year).

My body Dr. says is not healing well because it is fighting everything at once. Have had some infection and skin breakdown with my incision. I know how to take care of skin/stoma sites it's what I do. So I know it is not due to lack of care. It will all be good it just sucks going through it. I do well with pain it is my disposition (cranky) that shocks everyone who sees me as always cheery.

As I said in #54, I would prefer that those who think this is a big joke would bother their spouses and families instead of requiring a thousand post thread to vent their idiotic positions.

At 1000 posts this thread is about 45% garbage anti-Ridge, anti-HS, kill the illegals drivel, requiring an equal amount of support from the pro-HS group (myself included) making the 10% real information impossible to locate or discuss.

Just my opinion. No ideas how to fix it either. Just an observation.

Knak, that's an interesting story on Lybia handing over al-Qaeda info, esp this part:

US officials told the paper that Washington's hand was strengthened in negotiations with Kadhafi after a successful operation, previously undisclosed, to intercept transport suspected of carrying banned weapons.

Is there anything more out there on this? How many operations were not successful?

The louvered glass probably wouldn't have made any difference if the duck and cover was truly warranted! I went to McDonnell #7 in N.O. The Garden District, I think. Hey, what do I know about neighborhoods, I was a little kid!
Sure have good childhood memories of N.O. though.
Stay safe.

Ditto your observations. It's frustrating that the fringe few can take over a thread.

Sort of like the 10% extreme fringe left have taken over the country's judicial system, the Democrat party and the (insert anything). Also rather like the fringe Muslim extremists have taken over so that those who are more sane are nearly forgotten and left wondering what their religion is all about.

I have to wonder if this has anything to do with todays announcement: Lybia hands over al-Qaeda info Maybe he gave some of his weapons to qaeda people that he thinks may now be here? /tin foil

knak, I don't know whether to go with tin foil, aluminum or the pyramid hat on this one. It just makes so much sense, though...time-wise. Ughhhh....

Regarding the heightened Terrorist Alert to Orange - live news conference.

Mayor urges everyone to continue with holiday plans as planned and allow extra time at airport 2-3 hours domestic flights and 4+ hours for international flights.

LAPD is now on a modified tactical alert.

Police Chief Bill Bratten LAPD says they are doing everything they can to insure safe travel, increase security around buildings, doing best to "prevent" problems, checking bags and security ids. Advises everyone to get on with their lives.

The impact of heightened security alert is that there is an increase in security personnel with more info exchange between agencies.

Finally Chief Bratten asks everyone to be aware, but not to let awareness translate into fear. Phone authorities if you see something suspicious.

Pubbie,
You seem to be taking a lot of cheap shots at Tom Ridge.
I realize it's your right as an American to do this but there is no need to try to pass this off as humor.

I used to live in Secretary Ridge's district when he was a congressman. He was (is) a bad a$$. He didn’t take crap from anyone. I remember seeing him several times having lunch at Bizarro’s Ringside Lounge a little Italian pub and restaurant outside Erie, PA. . The Bizarros are a boxing family and some pretty tough characters used to hang there.

When he ran for Governor I witnessed him (verbally) take on several radio talk show hosts who crossed the disrespect line. He sent a not so subtle message that there was a physical option.

I think the reason Dubya picked him to run HS is because he ran a big state and he has a big set of balls

I think anything is possible. Libya had years to give/sell their WMDs to anyone. Perhaps this deal is more a way for Qaddafi to cover his arse because he knows what AQ has planned- and he sold the stuff to them. It is quite possible that this deal is bigger than just Libya giving up WMDs. Libya may have just sold out terrorists around the world.

After reading this and wondering Libya's motive, it's obvious right now that he sold it to terrorists!
