Republican presidential nominees 2008
Posted on 12/19/2003 2:58:48 AM PST by Reader of news
I think President Bush will be re-elected next year surely. Nevertheless, there is not any sure candidate for Republican presidential nomination in 2008. I think John McCain, Jeb Bush, Rick Perry, Condoleezza Rice, George Pataki and Bill Frist may be candidates.

Rudy is pro-abortion and pro-gun control. Both are non-starters with the right of center HUNK of the Republican party.

I just meant that Ike was follicle challenged. Also, Rudy stopped doing the comb-over thing about a year ago.

I wish some American born would feel as american as you do God Bless you.
Don't overlook Rick Perry He would make one of the best Presidents.Look how he handled the Commie/Socialists here in Texas. No new taxes, cut in spending, cut in giveway and cutout of unnessary progams.I don't think he would run but he would make a good one IMHO.

Don't forget Rudy Who could forget that Rudy handed the NY Senate seat to Hillary? Who can say he would not also hand the Presidency to her as well? If Rudy wants to make amends, he can do what he can to remove the cursed witch from the Senate in 2006.

The GOP needs to start grooming a candidate for 2008 to confront Hillary. The VP slot would have been useful in that regard, but Bush has selected Cheney again. Owens is a good candidate--young, attractive and from the West. Moreover, he has executive experience as a governor, which is the breeding ground for Presidential candidates over the past two decades. Carter, Reagan, Clinton, and Bush have come from the ranks of governor. Dean and Jeb Bush fit that mold. I just don't think that Jeb Bush could be successful running in 2008. The public wouldn't buy it.

Can't go with Ridge. He made an incredibly stupid statement last week regarding giving illegals, legal status. We don't need him.

Not if Howie-poo wins the nomination.

I think John McCain...
It's unlikely he'll even be alive then. Oh, he'll be alive - but he'll be a Democrat.

What about Bill Owens, Governor of Colorado? This sounds good to me. I understand the guy understands the value of less government.

"Rudy will be a guest on the IMUS in the MORNING program. That's my guy."
Not if you're a gun owner. I do admire Rudy for many things, not the least among them his brilliant handling of New York's terrible problems post-9/11. I also admire his crackdown on crime in general and gangs in particular. However, his ready willingness to trash the 2nd Amendment causes me great concern.

See Post #60 for Owens' track record. Pretty darn impressive for two years!

I'm going to tell you right now, he's my second cousin. I think he might owe me money!!!! Free skiing, that's a given.
He's a Republican pragmatist. He's smart and he's a winner. He'll offer an attractive, cross partisan, campaign if he runs for anything.
Therefore, the usual pissy old men of FR will hate him.

Yea, and several months ago, during a debate on a local talk radio show regarding economic development, listeners were referred to a scoreboard by a national group. Owens was given the highest grade of any governor in the US. Jeb was second.
I could go with Jeb, but I think the dynasty thing could be problematic.
Let's go with Owens.

".....remove the cursed witch from the senate in 2006"..from your mouth to God's ears. She has done nothing for this state in the 3 years she has been senator. This has been a stepping stone to her ultimate goal of Potus.

Sounds good to me. The more I read about Owens, the more I like him.
For those who would like to read more, you can find his webpage

I like Jed Bush, as well. But I hope he doesn't get the nomination in '08, because I don't like anything resembling a dynasty. Because a dynasty means its members automaticallt believe they are entitled to office, and unqualified "legacies" can be disatrous (just look at the Kennedys, for example: a more dysfunctional and vile clan I've never seen).
