The Hague, Netherlands -- U.S. presidential politics can be played on any stage, and for the past two days it has unfolded behind closed doors in a courtroom in the Netherlands.
As President Bush basked in the capture of Saddam Hussein, Gen. Wesley Clark, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, has had a strangely coincidental opportunity to point to his history with another man accused of war crimes: former President Slobodan Milosevic of Yugoslavia.

week NATO bombing campaign against Serbian forces in Kosovo, which is not a country but Serbia's southern province and is inhabited mostly by ethnic Albanians. The prosecution prevented him from doing so, officials said.
What a travesty of justice-what a travesty that testimony is blocked.

The letter arrived after Milosevic, who is serving as his own attorney, attacked Clark's personal character by citing criticism of him by Gen. Hugh Shelton, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to officials familiar with the testimony. He also sought to question the legality of the 11-week NATO bombing campaign against Serbian forces in Kosovo, which is not a country but Serbia's southern province and is inhabited mostly by ethnic Albanians. The prosecution prevented him from doing so, officials said.
During a break in Tuesday's testimony, Clark and the tribunal prosecutors contacted intermediaries who contacted Clinton. The former president swiftly faxed a brief letter to Carla Del Ponte, the chief prosecutor in the tribunal.

As a Republican I am not thrilled with Slobo using Shelton's criticism of Clark in his defense (even though what Shelton said was correct). This event just exemplifies why the leaders in this country should be a little more responsible with their "free-speech." While this particular event was rather benign, it is a great example of how tyrants and dictators will use the very words of our leaders to bolster and support their dispicable bahaviour.
And it is for this reason, that as much as dissent is tolerated in this country, the very accusations leveled at Bush from the Democrats, only play into the hands of our enemies. From the conspiracy theories to the flat-out accusations by Democrats about Bush and Iraq, our enemies are using their words to justify their hatred for this country. Free speech is a great thing; but free speech without accuracy and responsibilty is nothing more than spouting proganda and telling lies. Again, I am not saying that this happened in this case, but it is a perfect example of what is happening in the war on terrorism as Democrats attack Bush. I also wouldn't be surprised to see the media jump all over this.

Interesting. I wonder what Slobo said about Clark that got the prosecutors in such a twist that they had to run bubba down & get a letter faxed... Sounds like a Credibility Emergency.

According to officials in The Hague, Clark cited a conversation in Belgrade in August 1995 in which he asked Milosevic that if he had so much influence over the Bosnian Serbs, why he allowed Ratko Mladic, the Bosnian Serb military commander, to kill so many people at Srebrenica. "Well, Gen. Clark, I warned him not to do it, but he didn't listen to me, " Clark reportedly quoted Milosevic as saying.
A) This little tidbit of information lends credibility to the story that Slobo has been telling along.
B) The photo below (Clark and Mladic exchanging covers) was taken a year before Clark had this conversation with Slobo. Why so chummy Wes?

Destro, if you come across Clark's testimony at the ICTY that's supposed to be released tomorrow, please be sure to ping me.
Thanks!

Slobo presumably said that Clark is a war criminal, which happens to be true. So they needed a letter from clinton saying that he was just doing his job.

Only a Leftist can think Slobo is a worse war criminal than Saddam. Where were the international whiners begging for Slobo's dignity to be upheld?

Clark, Clinton and Albright.
Three of the most dangerous liars in the world conspiring to provide puppet Carla Del Ponte with self-serving declarations intended to whitewash their war crimes against humanity.
It is Clark, Clinton and Albright who should be in the dock, and it should be the people of Serbia who should be prosecuting them for their wholesale and deliberate carpet bomb killing of civilians and children, while encouraging evil incarnate - the albanian muslim mafia KLA - to murder as many Serbs and desecrate as many Christian Churches as possible in Kosovo.
This phony American puppet show ( trial ) serves only one purpose: make legitimate the wholesale slaughter of civilians by Clinton through his lackeys Clark and Albright.
I am legally prohibited from naming those who should pay the ultimate price for the murder of Christian Serbian innocents. Certainly, Slobodan Milosevic is not among them.
Less we forget it was the clandestine one world government conspirators - who continue to control America's global foreign policy - that used American taxpayer money to interfere in the free elections of Serbia.
Their single purpose? Drive Slobodan Milosevic from office, and cause a Judas betrayal of the protector of Serbia's sovereignty into the hands of the real mass murderers of innocent civilians and children.
It took the Roman Catholic Church 489 years to alter its role in burning alive St. Joan of Arc, patron saint of wrongly imprisoned people.
How long will it take the world to admit the injustice of this Hollywood 'Wag the Dog' cover-up of the illegal use of NATO to mask US interference in Serbia's civil war?
It is common knowledge that our US Christian taxpayer dollars financed the supply of weapons to drug dealing Albanian muslims for the wholesale slaughter of unarmed Christian Serbian women and children!!!
Your paycheck paid for the mass murder of Serbian Christians. How 'bout that.

>>>>>>"Contrary to Mr. Milosevic's claim, Gen. Wesley Clark carried out the policy of the NATO alliance, which was to stop massive ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, with great skill, integrity and iron determination," the letter stated, according to officials at The Hague. <<<<<<
This Clinton lie is debunked by Paul R. Williams, a former State Department lawyer focused on Yugoslavia in December 18 Boston Globe:
"This was basically an American show with a NATO flag draped over it," he said."
This was basically CLINTON show. Clinton and Gen.Clark have something in common: both of them are war criminals

But I'm wondering if there is something more specific since Slobo cited Hugh Shelton. As I recall, Shelton said that Clark had some integrity problems but didn't elaborate on the subject. I'm presuming it would be something more than the incident w/ Clark's wife & the Mercedes.

They probably couldn't get a letter from W. Espescially that in a partisan vote, the Republicans were against the 'bombing'. I'm not sure how W leans on this.
Like Gingrich said recently, the president 'exudes' the 'ethics' and 'course' but in the end somehow the 'buracracy' winds up doing the opposite.
Bump . The videos on Friday could be the end of Clark.

Wow, I had to take apart my computer monitor and wipe the spittle off the inside of the screen after bringing up that post. Robert, if this calm, measured, fact-based, well reasoned and rational piece is typical of your posts, you will meet many new friends on Incorrigible's ping list.

"Who is the arbiter of responsible free speech?"
Ahh...we are, the media is, and so are those doing the speaking...especially when they are politicians, who have an obligation to be honest with the American public. It's time for the traitors who hide behind the banner of "free-speech" and "dissent" to be revealed and rediculed for the lies they tell. Ironically, those of us who do just that are then accused of McCarthyism, as they want to silence our opinions. There is big difference between a student agitator making outrageous claims...and a presidential candidate doing the same. I stand by my claim: Irresponsible and inaccurate free-speech is still a lie...and should be labled as such, especially when spouted by political leaders. You may be satisfied with letting this free-speech go unanswered; I am not.
