Police in Mali have rescued more than 100 children from suspected traffickers believed to be taking them to forced labour, officials in the west African state said yesterday.Police at the weekend stopped 112 minors aged between 10 and 18 as they travelled in buses in the Segou region, north-east of the capital. They arrested two suspected traffickers.
Mohammed Attayer Maiga, of the ministry for women and children, said most of the youngsters had been from neighbouring Burkina Faso and were sent back after police checked their papers.
He said such children were normally taken to work in rice fields, often by traffickers operating in complicity with tribal elders.
The United Nations Children's Fund estimates that 200,000 west African children are trafficked each year, either being exported to Europe or sold into slavery as domestic workers.

I wonder how these nations, and those in Europe that imported the children, are voting on Iraq.

Slavery is an ancient African custom. It's a cultural "lifestyle choice". A choice made by one party, the owner. Oh well, as long as the tribal elder got his money, I guess I should accept the practice, otherwise I might be labeled as being "intolerant" of cultural diversity.

I saw a former child slave from Uganda on tv. He was adopted by an American family. The kid is fifteen, and already skipped a grade, is getting straight As despite knowing hardly an english. His mother was gang raped and murdered in front of him and he wants to become top student to honor her memory. Wow.
All I could think was how many kids aren't fortunate :-(

Chirp, chirp.
...You can also hear the paint drying on the walls, too. The only slaves the Race Racketeers care about are the ones who are long dead, in which they're demanding reparations for--not the slaves mind you, but for themselves.

Thank G-d he got a ticket to freedom in a country where he can excel. I have no doubt he will remember all those who were not as fortunate. It is the ones we can help who will make it right for those that remain.

Jackson can't make any money out of this, thus he doesn't care.

More proof of the worthlessness of the UN -- they can count the enslaved children, but cannot free them? Great use of their funds! How many slaves does Kofi have?

"More proof of the worthlessness of the UN "
The UN is NOT worthless!
"Be on the lookout for what Congress does in the next couple of years regarding international treaties with the United Nations."
Exactly. And the heart of the problem is probably the worst mistake the Founders ever made, that is, Clause 2 of Article Six of the Constitution.
"Clause 2: This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding. "
When our country will have lost its precious sovereignty, along with the Bill of Rights, every officer of the military, Homeland Security, the FBI, ATF, and every other part of the police-state apparatus, will be bound by those treaties. They will be "Constitutionally-sworn" to obey the "supreme law of the Land". Whoever the President is, he (or she) will not have betrayed their country by signing the bill. They will have acted as our representative and enacted our "will".
I've fought years to get people to recognize that the Constitution needs to be amended to strike Clause 2 and replace it with a clause that establishes the charge of treason for any official of the government who seeks to lessen US national sovereignty through treaty with any foreign power or entity. It is the only way to make sure that Agenda 21, and the chilling UN Millennium Treaty does not become the supreme law of America.
As for me, no matter how old I am, I will fight such a development. If a US administration sells out our country, I will take up arms in its defense, just as I have in the past. I hope and pray that this doesn't happen.
