"Saddam Captured" Celebratory FReep in Philadelphia Today
After Action Report

Having been awakened by a phone call that Saddam had been captured, the first thing that jumped into my mind was "City Line Avenue". It was payback time for all the left wing looney tunes for their snarky remarks and unfounded wacko charges.
At about 9 am, I took up my position outside the local NBC affiliate and across from the ABC affiliate there on City Line Avenue. That the stations were there was just a bonus, the main reason is that the intersection sees thousands of cars per hour. It's a main traffic artery west from Philadelphia to the 'burbs. It feeds from US-1 and I-76. Lots of cars, trucks and buses.
And what did they see? Saddam Hussein in camo BDU shirt, with red shoulder boards, red beret and a belt of 30 caliber ammo across his chest. And oh yeah, bloody hands. His sign was simple, three lines, four words. First line was "SAVE ME" in black. Second and third lines were "VOTE DEMOCRAT" in red.
In the two and a half hours I spent on the corner, there were just two "Liberal IQ" salutes. The first one was from the first car that passed. At least the guy had some flair and delivered it sideways with style. The second guy in a red station wagon leaned all the way over to the passanger side and was shaking with rage.
But the overwhelming sentiment today was laughter at the democrats position. Being overcast with snow, rain and sleet, it was difficult to see in some cars, but those in which I could see, had a vast majority of smiles. There was a fair amount of thimbs up and horn honks, especially when a local TV camera showed up. People were honking, rolling down their windows and giving the thumbs up.
Whenever it was cold and I felt like leaving, there'd be another round of horn nonks and thumbs up, so I stayed longer than I expected. You forget the cold and the stiff fingers after that very quickly. If I hadn't consumed a 20 oz coffee on the way there, I would have stayed three and a half hours.

I agree. He was such a good-natured, fun-loving guy. He was on WFIL when they also had jocks like Jim Nettleton and Dr. Donald E. Rose. Doing the weather was just a platform for him to do his act. By all accounts, not a mean bone in his body.

Imam Husham Al-Husainy of the Karbalaa Islamic Center in Dearborn, Mich., kisses a portrait of Imam Baqir Al-Hakim Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 after hearing the news that Saddam Hussein was captured in Iraq. Al-Hakim was killed in August in a car bomb in the holy Shiite city of Najaf, after his return from exile. (AP Photo/Carlos Osorio)
Remember this Imam from October 26, 2002 at 17th and Constitution?

You are truly a patriot. Out there in the cold for all that time. And your sign was PERFECT...short enough to read fast and with a real PUNCH. I don't have enough words of praise for you.

OH wow...you remembered more. However, we used to live down the street between Pacific and Atlantic and the Lucky Club was right around the corner. :) Oh yes, "Watch the Tram car please." Scrapple??? Well, that goes without saying. Peanut Chews? Oh yeahhhhh. If you remember the Lucky Club you must remember Ganser's Bakery, Maggio's, Rothman Candy Store and those BIG, CHOC covered Easter Eggs with the candy flowers and our names on them. Also, you must remember the Baby Parades and maybe even Cooker's corner not to mention St. Ann's school and church on Pacific Avenue and the then called Holy Apostles Church on Glenwood and Atlantic now called St. Ann's. The Martinique, Steve Gibson and the Red Caps up by the boardwalk, the fudgy, wudgy man on the beach???? Yipes.

Yes, I do remember the Imam from October 26, 2002. Thanks for the heads up for this thread.
Hey Doc! Great job and I'm glad BillF posted the photo of what you looked like (well, I'm sure you had a bit more padding today to keep warm!). Thanks.
I remember getting a wake-up call this morning -- great news, too!

That's a double bill I'd like to see. Saddam as a country and western singer with the Dixie Chicks as his opening act.

Did you know that his daughter is actress Peri Gilpin, who plays producer Roz Doyle on "Fraizer"? He didn't seem that old, but then again, you only remember them as being at the age at which they were lost.

Thank you for the thank yous. It was a real thrill to get out there today and get the word out.
I believe it was an effective way to get a message across. Vote for one of the dwarfs and you're voting FOR Saddam. The liberals will side with any one who hates Bush as much as they do.
