DALLAS -- A holiday shopping flier that's been distributed to thousands of households in north Texas is creating controversy because a message of hate is included within an advertisement.
An ad for "Party City" was supposed to highlight a sale on Hanukkah items, but it also contained a hateful anti-Semitic message.
The advertisement includes the sentence "CC Hates the Jews" in large, bold letters.
According to ADVO, the company that printed the advertisement, a graphic artist working on the ad had left his desk for a moment, and a co-worker with the initials C.C. changed the text on the ad.
The graphic artist didn't notice the change and the ad went to print.
However, despite the explanation, the Anti-Defamation League wants more questions answered.
"How did it get out of the graphic shop in Pittsburgh? How did it get by ADVO? How did it get by the printer and all of that?" Mark Briskman said.
ADVO representatives in Dallas said they are mortified by the oversight and that they are trying to figure out why the error was never caught.

What is that, about 32 point sans bold? And the copy editor missed it?

The graphic artist didn't notice the change and the ad went to print.
Apparently the graphic artist was either blind or had the initials "C.C.".

they are trying to figure out why the error was never caught. How's this for a sinister explanation: Stupid people not paying attention.

Who is C.C. and why is he still employed? Texas has a law that unauthorized access to a computer that causes financial damage is a felony. It's a great big law with big, bad teeth. When it went into effect. I demanded written authorization from my former boss to perform my duties, including security testing. Especially security testing.
With the right DA, C.C. could be in a whole lot of hot water.

Maybe they should read the ads instead of just relying on the spell-checking software.

Actually, I can see this happening.
It was on a disk, and CC opened it, edited it, saved it, and closed it. It was replaced and the guy came back and was never the wiser.
The print shop may have sent it off to print and then had it delivered to desination. Nobody proofs these things. I know of a certain candy product that had the name of an ex-manager and a trashy word describing him listed in the ingredients. Not my work, but I know this stuff happens....

Let's ask Jessie Jackson what he thinks of this...

Whoever was running that workstation knew what was going to press.
How come the pressman and plant manager didn't catch it?
I'd like to see CC's real name published so he can be blacklisted for his violation of trust.
He sounds like he's got a promising career ahead at The Spotlight.
