Too bad Zell's a Democrat.

And. . .too bad he's leaving the Senate.
To: Rightly Biased
True, but he's becoming more and more of a DINO. Too bad he's stepping down soon.

It's not up to me to question anyone's sincerity on this issue, but one thing that has always bothered me about these pro-life "epiphanies" (among Democrats in particular) is that they always seem to take place (or at least are made public) right after the person in question has decided to leave politics. I believe former New York governor Hugh Carey had gone through a similar "change of heart."

You read my mind. I like Zell, a lot. But I have not once heard him apologize for voting with the Dem Senate majority when "Jumpin' Jim" took control back illegitimately in 2000, and like you, I'm a little troubled that these "changes of heart" from pro-choice to pro-life always seem to occur once the person in question no longer is running for anything.
Quite the contrary, in the Dem party, they ALWAYS switch from pro-life to "choice" when they want to move up (See: Al Gore, Joe Lieberman).

I sometimes wonder as well if their "comming out" has something to do with thier not having to worry about being reelected but it doesn't make sense in the long run.

I have trouble with the fact that since we can now see on a sonagram that it is a baby, people are changing their minds. Wonder what in the world they thought it was before they could "see" it!!!!

He's probably doing more good speaking out this way as a Democrat than a Republican.
I hope he continues speaking out, even after he's gone.

Wonder what in the world they thought it was before they could "see" it!!!! A cluster of cells. Something "pre-human". Maybe even something like that ridiculous drawing that made them look like iguanas.
My own transformation came about with the sonograms, and also with many of my friends getting pregnant over the years. I realized that none of them referred to what was in their bodies as "my fetus", but rather "my baby".
My best friend miscarried on New Year's Eve. She went through incredible grief. She lost her unborn child, not a "choice".
To make matters worse, her ultra-liberal sister from Oregon was in visiting the whole family and staying with her at the time. There's always been a lot of jealousy since my friend is a success in her career, has an MBA from the U of C, etc., but what was said was totally out of line. Her sister informed my friend that she believed that the baby chose to miscarry because s/he didn't want to be born to someone who put so much time and effort into her career.
And they say republicans are mean-spirited. I am not a violent person, but luckily I heard that after she left else I would have gone and kicked her sister's a$$.

We need a constitutional amendment banning abortion. And, a very, very ugly kind of capital punishment for doctors who perform it. (Dynamite enema is my favorite.)
To: Rightly Biased
The most important idea about this article is not what Zell Miller or any other politician, or the Supreme Court, or any other governmental organization thinks about abortion.
God is changing the hearts of the people, and that's where the power has always been when they choose to use it.

Wow, that is truly the most hard-hearted thing I could imagine one woman saying to another.
To: Rightly Biased
"I began to seriously wrestle with where I was on the real question," he writes. "I began to pray earnestly for God's guidance."
Yeah, too bad it's about 42 million abortions too late for the victims.
To: basil
Many were taught the fetus is a "mass of tissue" until some nebulous stage of gestation. In fact I knew a physician who sincerely believed the embryo takes the same forms of a progression of lower species during development. He also saw this as a proof of Darwinism.

"I began to seriously wrestle with where I was on the real question," he writes. "I began to pray earnestly for God's guidance." When you do that there is only one direction that God will lead you, to the pro-life position.
"It seems strange they shed tears for someone who has been found guilty of having committee heinous crimes, but cannot find equal compassion for an innocent infant who has hurt no one," he writes.
One Heck of a good point Zell. God surely has touched him and is giving him the vision to see clearly.

Too bad Zell might be replaced by Johnny Isakson!

God will change hearts of those that truly seek Him and what a testimony Zell will have I still wonder sometimes what takes people so long to get it.

"He's probably doing more good speaking out this way as a Democrat than a Republican." I doubt that. Governer Casey probably does, too.
