It's not up to me to question anyone's sincerity on this issue, but one thing that has always bothered me about these pro-life "epiphanies" (among Democrats in particular) is that they always seem to take place (or at least are made public) right after the person in question has decided to leave politics. I believe former New York governor Hugh Carey had gone through a similar "change of heart."

You read my mind. I like Zell, a lot. But I have not once heard him apologize for voting with the Dem Senate majority when "Jumpin' Jim" took control back illegitimately in 2000, and like you, I'm a little troubled that these "changes of heart" from pro-choice to pro-life always seem to occur once the person in question no longer is running for anything.

Quite the contrary, in the Dem party, they ALWAYS switch from pro-life to "choice" when they want to move up (See: Al Gore, Joe Lieberman).

I sometimes wonder as well if their "comming out" has something to do with thier not having to worry about being reelected but it doesn't make sense in the long run.
