Thanks, I also think that there are two types of depressed people, which is what I was really trying to say. One, like me, who know what's going on, hate it, but can more or less deal with it. There are others, that are so far gone, that they cannot reason like other people. Until you experience being around someone like that, it is really difficult to imagine their (mental) condition.

Don't feel sorry for me Argentina! :-) I wasn't trolling for sympathy, and I half-wished I had posted it privately.... but I realized that there are those out there that need to know you can get better, no matter how bad it gets.

Life is good. :-)

Apples and oranges.

Brain functions that are dependent on emotions are effected by emotions. We cause them, we feed them, we can most times control the start of them, and can certainly, when aware of it, end them, regardless of what emotion we experience. Some control takes more time than others, true, but all can be controlled by our own thinking!

You can keep from laughing when in a buisness meeting, right? You can control your anger with your child, right?

It is the same thing.

As for diabeties, that is not controlled by emotions, it is a disease. Most likely caused by Adam's Sin!

It is also caused by a person's overeating! Some cases of Diabeties ARE caused by the person who has it!

I wonder what the Schizophrenic's problem really is. It may, too, be caused by the person themselves, because of their own flawed thinking, and a loss of reality, built upon by themselves, also.

Pretty presumptuous, I'd say.

Not presumptuous, just ignorant. Depression is a disease that kills in the same way that any other disease can kill if untreated or untreatable. People who haven't seen it just can't grasp that.

Slow, weak plodding along

Ah yeah, the foot shuffle... Did your voice change, too?

Like everyone I have had bouts of depression. The death of my father, dealing with the disease I have, etc. I usually wallow in it for a while, them I self talk myself out of it. I would not hesitate to take medication for it if I felt that I needed it, nor do I see any shame in doing so, either from a Christian perspective, or just a social one.

I have been blessed or cursed, depending on the perspective, to appear upbeat and happy even when I am down in the dumps. My hubby and friends marvel at my ability to do that. When they are depressed, everyone knows it. I keep it to myself, and cry and make a scene only when I am alone. I am not sure if that is good or bad!

...He also used the fallact of "false dichotomy"--either suicide is a noble act or the act of a selfish coward.

Impossible - you mean the same Dane who has the hackneyed, tired, and unfounded mindset that professes "support the mindless WOD 110%, or you're a crankhead reprobate who shall burn in the Pits of Hell"?

Voice change? Boy, I don't know. I did develop the stutters during that time and still have problems with stuttering when tired or stressed out, one of my red flags I pay attention to. Another thing that plagues me to this day is numbers and simple math. My math skills used to be stronger than the average person - now they're in the toilet. Simply subtraction in my head would totally sap me and send me deep into the depression, it now frazzles me and puts me in a bit of a confused state. I still can't complete the problem in my head. Memorizing numbers briefly isn't too bad anymore but after a day of it, I'm zonked.

Dane's an idiot and everybody knows it. He's a troll, period. Why anyone would cut him slack is beyond me. Yeah, he meant well...my ass.

All desire is the result of suffering.

Exactly, which is why it is imperative to become experienced in the state of equanimity.

You're getting to be one scary person.

The simple act of standing at the kitchen sink doing dishes would tap me out and send me deep into the depression. I depleted seretonin by using larger muscles to stand and keep my balance, going through the process of washing and rinsing the dishes, and cleaning up afterwards. Emotions had nothing to do with it. The result, however, was uncontrollable crying jags while washing dishes because of the major imbalance due to the depletion of seretonin.

The brain is an organ like the rest of our body that can physically goes out of whack, regardless of emotions. It needs to rest and occasionally in some like me needs help to function properly. Claiming emotionally strength and willpower is the key to wellness is not only wrong but too much like all the New Age crap that failed me in the first place.

Voice changes--voice gets slow, "dead" sounding, no inflection.
