Germany's self-confessed cannibal killer Armin Meiwes has been sent a vegetarian cookbook and a Christmas hamper full of veggie burgers and tofu.
Animals rights group Peta (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is behind the stunt and says it would be a major coup if it could convert Meiwes to vegetarianism.
Meiwes is on trial for killing, dismembering and eating the flesh of another man.
He has admitted killing and eating his victim, but denies it was murder. Peta is hoping the mouth-watering recipes in the book and the hamper of vegetarian foods will persuade him to mend his ways.
The vegetarian starter kit was sent to Meiwes' prison cell in the town of Kassel, where the trial is taking place.
Peta spokesman Juergen Faulmann said: "What this man did to a German computer expert is done to other creatures every day.
"The cruel scenario of slaughtering, cutting up, portioning, freezing and eating of body parts is the grim reality for more than 450 million sentient individuals that are killed in this country every year."
"People who eat meat feel disgusted by human flesh. Vegetarians feel disgusted by any sort of meat."

Oh yeah, PETA will go anywhere and do anything for a shot at "credibility". Where do I sign up?

I think I will send him a box of Hamstring Helper.

I bet he wishes he was in the US right now, what with the ban on cruel and unusual punishment.

PETA, please explain to me why vegetables should be slaughtered in favor of animals. Vegetables are alive. Does something deserve life, solely on the fact that it has fur and arms/legs?
Also, would you please stop those lions from eating those baby antelopes?

It's a fact that the victim actually responded to an ad the cannibal ran and submitted himself to be killed and eaten. If it's not too unpleasant a detail, they actually dined together on a part of his anatomy before the murder.
So one carnivore finally, actually gets the permission of the animal he is going to eat and PETA still has a problem with this nutcase's menu choice.

It's brain worship. They have no respect for life. did you mean brain or bran?
To: muir_redwoods
It's just a matter of gall. Regardless of how much this cannibal ate, PETA's arrogant little minions still have more.
But why, I have to ask, would converting a cannibal to vegetarianism be "a coup?" Surely they can't expect him to serve as some sort of role model! One can imagine the advertisements!
"Armin Meiwes tried the veggie diet and look how healthy he is today!" (insert picture of nutjob with bars and striped shirt)
On the other hand, maybe they figure since he's a nutjob he'll appeal to the German populace.

To: muir_redwoods
Not really. They are only trying to equalise meat-eating to cannibalism.
They think meat-eaters being sickened by cannibalism is hypocritical.
