The answer is yes...almost. Some day, I believe the GOP will be just as immoral as the Dems, but the process will take awhile. You can see the slippage on key issues now - gay rights, courts, big govt., etc., and that is precisely why I am no longer a Republican - I VOTE MORAL PRINCIPLE AND ONLY MORAL PRINCIPLE.

I'm not sure what other freepers are referring to, but by "third party" I'm talking about the folks here that you see proudly proclaiming that they joined the Constitution Party or that they voted other than the GOP because they were peeved they didn't get what they wanted on their favorite issue. By the way, "organized as independents"? There is no such thing. There are far-lefties and socialists in that mix, and disenfranchised Dems who feel the Dem Party abandoned them and they want to be "courted".....and even folks like my staunch-conservative hubby who registered Independent because he absolutely can't say no to any GOP fundraising call even if we already busted the budget donating to something the week before. There are also mushy middle swing voters as Independents who don't know enough about politics to see the big differences between the right and the left.

As far as I can tell, if someone does one thing deemed non-conservative, with these people they are henceforth defined as liberal, no different than the Democrats etc. He has not on balance been more like a moderate than a conservative. There's two things everyone is citing - big spending, which is due in part to Iraq/terrorism, and CFR. It's not as though supporting the prescription drug benefit was some kind of reversal for Bush either (which some people seem to interpret it as). He campaigned on it. If he had a different record on those things, most of these 10 year olds would be citing something else as their basis for saying he's a liberal. Tax cuts, partial birth abortion ban, opposing Kyoto, reversing Clinton era EPA's excessive actions, missile defense, arguing against U. of Michigan's affirmative action scheme before the SC, war on terror, conservative judge appointments etc. are all conservative.

IMO if Dean or some other Dem wins and we get attacked again, most of these geniuses would immediately proclaim that it would have happened if Bush had won too.

I've wondered. One enjoyable trait of being on the right is that it takes a fairly high level of intelligence to understand why conservatism is so important and healthy for the country. This usually makes for very enjoyable interaction with the best and the brightest in the political spectrum.

You forgot the education bill, encouraging the passage of and stating that he will sign an extension to the AWB, not speaking out against the Texas sodomy ruling, pushing for the legalization of illegal aliens, kissing China's a@@ on Tiawan and so on. I said that he is acting more moderate due to balancing all the liberal things he has done (and been for) and all the conservative things he has done (and been for). That puts him in the moderate range, possibly leaning slightly conservative at this time.

Last time I read the Constitution, the legislature makes the laws of the land, not the people. The people elect people to the legislature, but they can pass laws that go against the wishes/beliefs of the people (as is the case we have currently and in the past).
