In a discussion on this thread Tom Ridge's Immigration Remarks Draw Fire a post regarding the conservative angst about the recent campaign finance reform that Bush signed into law and that the Supreme Court approved (and the approval was praised by the White House), on the heals of the Medicare entitlement enacted under a Republican controlled government the following was posted:

I'm hearing Rush now. He claims the republicans have ONLY one party to go to. He has put this issue squarely on the problem. We need to vote outside of this corrupt party apparatus.

I also heard this on Rush and my blood boiled. Rush said conservatives have no place else to go and thus will continue to vote as a block to the Republicans.....and then it hit me. That is exactly what we conservatives lament about Blacks and the Democratic party. Black Democrats who vote straight Democratic and are rewarded by being ignored.

In other words, Conservatives are now the "Blacks" of the Republican Party!!!

I urge the same solution to Republican conservatives that Black conservatives offer to Black Democrats. QUIT! Become independents and let the parties fight for our votes. If we can't take the GOP back we should leave the GOP.

By that of course, I mean a unifying figure who can get elected; not someone who'll expand the central government's power over the states à la the first Lincoln.

The main point I want to make is that ultimatums are a very dangerous business - there's a risk that people will find out that you're not really capable of carrying out your threats, and that you're just bluffing. And if people ever figure that out about you, you are seriously screwed, with a capital-"S".

Fortunately, I think that people who are absolutely rigid and unwilling to compromise are, for all practical purposes, non-existent - the vast majority of people will accept some sort of compromise, so the issue then is hammering out a compromise that acceptable to everyone. Maybe there isn't one, in which case, the divorce might as well come sooner rather than later. I suspect there is one lurking in there somewhere, though, but the first step to getting there is in realizing that if the libs get in, we all lose, and that while getting everything you want is best of all, getting something is better than getting nothing. People who demand the whole loaf or nothing at all have a habit of starving, essentially.

What we probably need a long list of thousands of Conservative voters who will promise NOT to vote for Georgie II in 2004 unless he dumps Karl Rove, PUBLICLY.

Its not like we're putting Rove out of work. With his experience, he could easily work for Wesley Clark, Dick Gephard,or even Dean.
