Call the WHite HOuse to Thank Bush for CFR!!!
Posted on 12/10/2003 1:09:18 PM PST by Maceman
For what good it will do, I just called the White House switchboard (202-456-1111) and conveyed my extreme outrage at Bush for not vetoing CFR when he had the chance.
I hope you all will do the same.
BTW, the operator told me "you are not alone."
Let's shut down the WH switchboard with howls of protest.
If I wasn't still even more terrified of the Democrats than I am of the Republicans (albeit barely at this point), I would never support Bush in '04 after this.

Nope, he was assured by his legal team that the free speech restrictions would be overturned, and that if the bill had severability then sign it, Mitch McConnell and the RNC would challenge the free speech portion of the bill. What they forgot is that we have a Supreme Court that has lost their copy of the Constitution

How many conservative justices will a democrat president appoint (nominate) to the Supreme Court? You really think that Bush is going to put forth a conservative after this ?

"Makes you feel "good" and ever so principled."
Yes, it makes me feel good to vote for the person who I feel is the best candidate. Yes it is principled. (Does that mean it is unprincipled to vote for King-Haven't snorted coke for years-George again?)
And you know what? If a few million other voters did the same, we could take back this country and stop gambling with the Constitution. The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to vote for a lesser evil. Evil is still evil. Truth is Error! Black is White! Freedom is Slavery! Or at least that's what I seem to be hearing. But luckily I'm growing deaf in my dotage so I'll just keep doing my duty as long as God sees fit to leave me here.
Regards.

he was assured by his legal team that the free speech restrictions would be overturned Is that really documented? I really don't believe it, because I think it was a fairly close case, which with given the makeup of the court, made the outcome unpredictable. If what you say is documented, than Bush's legal team is second string.

Nope, the Bush team looked at the constitution and thought the SCOTUS would as well. The second string team wears black robes and there is 9 of them

Well, adopting the position that we need to have things go worse in order for them to get better, as you see the better (one step backwards for two steps forward), is not a new idea, but in general it is a bad idea, because it is a risky scheme, without really much prospect for success. That's my call anyway. Your mileage obviously varies.

I liked it. At least he was entertaining.
And BTW, by taking all those 3rd party millions he gave Busch the election because another people's party candidate would have taken more votes from Busch and then Busch would have lost the election.
Ain't that ironic? Without Buchanan, Busch would have lost. And I never heard Busch thank Buchanan.

Pat Buchanan is a stain, he is the most negative person alive. I understand your rage now, it's the PJB in you. Whine and cry about everything and contribute ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

I take it you think the misspelling of the president's name is clever and hilarious. You know what, not to really focus on you, but the continual name calling on this forum of politicians of whatever stripe (Hitlery, Stabusall, LieBerman, Dumbya, etc.), I think is infra dig, puerile and ineffective. But it is popular, and my view on the matter is the equivalent of breaking wind in a windstorm. And so it goes. Carry on.

I will see if I can find Bush's quotes on his reason for signing the bill, he mentioned the plan to challenge portions of the bill and if it wasn't for the severability clause he would have not signed it. Be back in a few

I couldn't resist bringing up GWB's past drug use. Forgive me, but sometimes when these threads try to make Busch seem like the savior of truth, justice, and the american way, I just can't help myself. Accept my apology at my offense.
And notice how I'm spelling the President now? B-U-S-C-H? Anyone out there want to ask me why? Come on, I dare you. I double-dog dare you.
To: baxter999
And what documentation do you have for this past drug use, did you get this info from DU or James Carville?
You don't need forgiveness, you need pity

HELLO?
When more than one interpretation is plausible for CFR, such as Council on Foreign Relations, it makes sense to spell out precisely what it means in the post concerned . . .
IMHO.

Great, but I am looking the poop that his legal team told him SCOTUS would, well let's use the word "probably" here, strike out the 30 and 60 day gag rule. By the way, does the gag apply just to coordinated speech, or all speech that mentions the candidate, or all speech period that addresses issues of interest in the election? I am having a senior moment, and don't recall.
And by the way, are rich folks still allowed under this bill to buy elections with their own money? About a third of the senators are now in the super rich category. In time, I suspect it will become two thirds. And so it goes.
The only real solution to this mess IMO is the Maine plan (spending limits, which if exceeded, the state just cuts checks for more than the amount of the excess to the opposing candidate). (Granted, that still leaves the knotty issue of third party spending, and how to account for that.) But almost all in this forum probably wouldn't like that one either.
