Their other flavors are also in cans. Try the White Grape....yumilicious.

Diet RC Cola is also made with Splenda rather than aspartame.

Those would be limited :) Strict atkins followers pass on the potatoes, other low carbers find they can eat them in moderation. There are some really good lower carb whole wheat breads out there. We just look for the highest fiber content.

I think "buttered hemp rope" is a snack choice on Atkins. ;)

Egg yolks have a high concentration of arachidonic acid. You can eat all the cooked egg white you can stand, but limit yourself to a yolk or two per day. The cholesterol is not the problem.

My brother won a bet with his wife using the atkins diet. Ten years later he weighs 320 pounds and has a new wife. There is not a shread of evidence that weight loss diets contribute to longer life, or even that they contribute to sustained weight loss over a ten or twenty year period.

Good genes, however, are as good as gold.

Is that air of superiority hard wired in there with the DNA or is that something you developed on your own?

I only eat those things on Easter,
but there's not much protein in 'em,
mostly just empty calories: marshmallow and sugar.

I drink Splenda in Green Tea. It's pretty good.

I was reading yesterday that Splenda has just surpassed Equal to take the #1 position in artificial sweeteners. Apparently, sales took off after Atkins' endorsement about a year ago. Sweet 'n' Low is a distant third. I was considering investing, but they're a small part of Johnson and Johnson.

I noticed eggs go up in price 50% this year. Still a great source of protein on the cheap, so is tuna fish.

I didn't know that, but I don't eat more than two eggs a day, anyway. And that's not every day, either.

CME live cattle futures -- basis Feb 04 -- from a low close on 5/20 of 72.72, ran up to the high close on 12/2 of 94.70. On that date, USDA announced the likely resumption of importation of Canadian cattle younger than 30 months, beginning in early 2004. These cattle were previously barred from import due to 1 incident of BSE discovered this past May. Since 12/2, LC futures have spent the past week getting absolutely trashed, down almost 6 full cents, now trading at 88.83.

Prior months, notably the October 03 contract, actually traded over $1.00 for several days, the first time in history that this figure has been reached.

Plenty of good whole wheat bread and potatoes, I hope.

You can have that in moderation. Just as with anything, excess is the problem. Potatoes aren't high up on Atkins but I do like an occassional sweet potato (a half). Everyone metabolizes carbs differently. Some people can introduce more carbs back into their diet than others. It's not a one size fits all but it works and you're not hungry. Also, all your blood numbers leave the doctors asking you for your secret.

Which air of superiority? I have done nothing to merit long-lived parents, and those who die young have done nothing to merit their medical condition.

If, however, you are going to promote a diet that limits bread and potatoes and rice -- foods that have fed most of humanity throughout recorded history, you will need some long term studies to back up your claims.

There are all kinds of conspiracy theories as to why people are overweight. The majority of people in this country gain about 1-3 pounds per year after age thirty. At age sixty they could be 90 pounds "overweight".

That can be caused by eating a single slice of dry toast per day more than is strictly needed. That's an amazing "thermostat". The most reasonable assumpting for this kind of overeating is that our bodies are designed to store fat for periods of famine, and we no longer have periods of famine. As a practical result, most people who try to control their weight will be hungry most of the time. Over a thirty year period this will be true, regardless of diet.

There are, of course, naturally thin people, and my mother is one of them. Good for them.

Beef prices here (Wisconsin) are in the stratosphere. I can't afford to buy a steak. I had heard it was due to the ban on Canadian beef, but that seems unlikely to cause the price of beef ribeyes to go to $11.48/lb, doesn't it? That's what it was last week in the store. (and NOT in the butcher's case, either) I refuse to pay that price per pound for anything.

Why is Diet Rite ok?

If you are looking for a really great (IMO) drink and the water that all people recommend is boring you to death maybe you should try "Fruit2O". It's just water, with a teeny amount of fruit flavoring and sweetened by Splenda. It's really terrific and I'm sure that drinking a lot of water is good for you.

The taste is really subtle and it has a ton of different flavors.

Hmmm. When I alter my diet to shed unwanted fat, I eat more often. At least 5 or 6 times a day, often more (every two and a half to three hours). I am usually less hungry, as a result, when I diet to lose weight than when I just eat whatever I want.

Meat/Steak prices skyrocket because of Atkins diet.
Egg prices skyrocket because of atkins diet.

Where's the headline: BREAD PRICES PLUMMET BECAUSE OF ATKINS DIET???
