With high cholesterol and fat-filled yolks, eggs once suffered from a reputation as artery cloggers. But recent reports have shown they are healthier than previously thought. It's high time we got over the notion that eating a food that has cholesterol in it results in high cholesterol. If you eat a diet very low in cholesterol, your body will manufacture it. there is also a genetic factor - there are people who follow a low-fat diet, and yet have sky high cholesterol levels. My husband is allergic to poultry products, so we do eat a lot of red meat. Guess what? We both have very acceptable blood chemistry levels. So, I tend to ignore all the warning about fats in foods - the High Cholesterol and Saturated Fats warnings. As far as I'm concerned, the real culprit are the transfats found in commerical baked goods and in margarine.

No kidding. Egg prices have doubled here, and since I'm on a loose approximation of the Atkins diet, eggs are a primary staple. I bet I never ate 10 omelets in my entire 42 years before I started this diet, now it's what's for breakfast every day.
Another major irritation is Diet Rite cola. For years I drank it because it was cheaper than the big name brands and got to where I liked the taste of it. NOW, since it's one of the only officially "good" sodas for Atkins people, it's almost 8 bucks a case.
In my carb deprived state, however, I have NOT yet attempted "fauxtatoes" which uses a head of cauliflower, steamed, pressed to remove water, and mashed w/ butter and cream to create a semblance of mashed potatoes.
Somebody asked me the other day at the store if I wanted to try a new brand of laundry soap and I asked "how many carbs does it have?"

Every day for lunch, my Mil and I have...
Cheesey Eggie with Trees (she is 3)
She is happy and healthy and I have lost 20 pounds.
I might just get some chickens....
I blew it today and had Frosted Flakes but will be back tomorrow.

Ho hum. Another fad. I will continue to be omnivorous. Just like my 96 year-old mother and 93 year-old father.

Why is Diet Rite ok?It's the sweetner, Splenda. Besides the diet cola, there are many flavors (in plastic bottles) to choose from.

Atkins dieters eat more than meat, cheese and eggs!

Ooooo, thanks! I have to try some!
I drink Splenda in Green Tea. It's pretty good.

Hansen's diet soda is also sweetened with Splenda. I really like the Black Cherry flavor, with the Kiwi Strawberry flavor a close second.
