I hope you know that the Alien and Sedition Acts were the death-knell for the Federalist Party. The Founders were not immune from mistakes, except they internalized the cost. I bet both political parties will only grow stronger from this.

really? who is going to stop the NYT from taking a moveon.org ad? The Justice department?

How many of the current Justices were nominated by Republicans? I'll give you a hint, it's more than five... Bump!

If you are saying that I made the case WHY he signed it, then I won't argue with that. But I never, ever said he SHOULD have signed it. I see. You adamantly defended his signing it, but that shouldn't be taken as an endorsement of the bill.
I've made this mistake before. A few years ago I misunderstood the meaning of "is".

"This isn't over till the fat lady sings. I'd like to know more before I cut my wrist like many of you folks."
On the contrary. We are not cutting our wrists, we are girding our loins for the upcoming clash, and it's gonna be a doozy.

Take some Pepto-bismo and it will straighten out that gut.
Hysterical reactions rarely substitute well for reasoned analysis and this is a prime example.
So far the suffering has been by the RATS.

I know what you mean; I had to learn the meaning of "parsing." I see you already understood what that meant.

I was one of the "experts" who made that assertion. If this decision is as bad as the comments so far indicate, I WILL resign from the Bar of the United States Supreme Court, exactly as I said I would if we did not get major parts of this law struck down.
I have been a member of that Bar since 1976. My 18th brief in that Court will be filed on 19 December. But beyond a certain point, any institution can become so corrupt that an honest man can no longer associate with it. Once I have read the opinions in this case, that is probably where I will be, with respect to the Court.

This supreme court has just told us that sodomy is protected under (what is left of) the Constitution; however, free speech isn't. For once, I'm speechless.

Sir, I don't think I'm being hysterical about this. I know what's going on. I've read the law and Rush is dead right on this one.
I think we are all headed for the ovens on this one.

This is out-and-out dictatorship.
I am very upset with Pres. Bush for having signed this. He should have protected our rights from the idiots at SCOTUS.

absolutely, there will be a flod of lawsuits against talk radio, websites, etc now. its not a "nuisance" suit if the judges uphold it.
To: WackyKat
How do you come up with such stuff? This hurts freedom no more than the inability to yell "fire" in a crowded theater.
And it implements a power granted to Congress WITHIN the constitution so how could that "hurt" the constitution?

How many of the current Justices were nominated by Republicans? I'll give you a hint, it's more than five... Actually 7. 3 of them have become liberals(Stevens, O'Connor, and Souter) and have formed a majority with the 2 Clinton appointees(Ginsburg and Breyer).
The appointees a second Bush term would have appointed is all speculation now.
