A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

It has been a while, my dedicated fans. After bundles of fan mail pleading with me to return with another Inquisition, I decided to cancel my extended stay on the Riviera and travel, instead, to that quagmire of conservatism, Texas. Lars was ever-so-kind enough to pile my luggage into the aging H2 (I keep asking Billie for an upgrade and she has the nerve to keep telling me that a 2-year-old H2 simply is not old enough for the scrap-heap), and off we went, into the sunset, to the home state of President (shudder) Whatsisname. There, I was to catch up with the infamous Donaeus.

Sit back, relax and enjoy my latest conquest my dear, loyal and patient fans, as I present to you:

Donaeus - The Exclusive Inquisition

dansangel: Please give my readership some juicy, er, uh, some pertinent facts about your background.

Donaeus: I was born a patriot and the signs showed early. At age four, I was singing the "Star-Bangled Lantern," but I can remember knowing the power and majesty of our National Anthem even before I could repeat or understand the words. I felt pride surging through me so strongly I thought my heart would burst.

Ain't she sweet? Donaeus as a child.

dansangel: Sounds like a medical condition, if you ask me.

Donaeus: The song does the same thing to me today. The only real difference between then and now, are my eyes fill with tears because I fully grasp the sacrifices made to ensure our Star-Spangled Banner yet waves.

dansangel: I am ever so sure that there's medication you can take for that, dear. Now, to get back on track, some info, please, on your background.

Donaeus: Growing up I was a tomboy and dreamed of taking out across the country with the likes of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. My two best friends were my twin cousins, Jathen and Jarren, the closest I ever got to Tom and Huck.

We had plenty of adventures of our own though none of them legendary! The three of us loved guns and knives, knives being our favorite because we had real ones. We were very tough with our one inch blade pocketknives, don'tcha know!

dansangel: Regular juvenile delinquents, from the sounds of it.

Donaeus: I was always a little bit jealous of Jathen and Jarren because their dad is a hunter so they got to go to the woods and shoot real guns long before I did. I consoled myself with my grandfather's slingshots and the knowledge that one day I'd have a gun of my own.

I begged my Mother for years to let me have a BB gun but her answer was always no and back then Dad agreed. However, I was not to be deterred from target practice and was able to convince her I needed a bow and arrow set. I was rewarded by Dad with a very nice recurve bow set on my twelfth birthday. I loved that bow so much I would have slept with it but my younger sister would have none of that! As much as I enjoyed my bow, the longing for a BB gun had not gone away.

My wait finally ended when I was old enough to purchase a CO2 powered BB pistol that I took, along with my bow and arrows, on treks about the large property my parents rented. A .22 rifle I purchased at a flea market was my first real firearm. It is a fairly light arm even though it has a solid wooden stock and easy to operate which makes it a lot of fun to shoot. I'm happy shooting targets but would like to try hunting sometime.

Donaeus as a young girl, as an adult and a photo of her beloved bluebonnets.

dansangel: You know, you're starting to worry me. You're obviously a Neanderthal gun-nut. You are not going to tell me in the same breath that you are a [shudder] conservative, are you?

Donaeus: I've only voted for a Democrat once in my life and it was a very special circumstance. It was for the local school board election and the incumbent Republican, who was an in-name-only, had such a botched record we all wanted him gone.

Mr. Plochkey (sp?), the Democratic challenger, was far more conservative than the sitting Republican so I had no qualms about voting for him. He ran as a Democrat because running as a Republican would have let the fence-sitters and undecideds throw the election back to the incumbent. Everyone wanted change and it had to be someone with a decisively different message than one we'd been getting. Mr. Plochkey won handily and did an excellent job for our school district.

dansangel: Score one for our side! Thank goodness you at one time had the intelligence to vote Democratic. I'm so relieved - there's hope for you yet!

Donaeus: I've always had a certain interest in politics and government because it has a direct impact on all our lives. My Father has researched and followed political trends for decades so I must have gotten the genes.

I was raised in a very conservative, Christian home as were all of my immediate and extended family members. The only Democrats in the family that I know of were on my Dad's side of the family, his parents and a few very aged great-aunts and uncles.

dansangel: Ha! See? It's about time I had a "live" one! Democrats in the family - who could ask for anything more?

Donaeus: I think they followed that philosophy primarily due to their limited education, not their lack of intelligence, and the hardships of raising a family during the Depression. I really don't believe they could understand the real outcome or intention of welfare because both of them were insistent on instilling their children and grandchildren with a sense of personal responsibility and a strong work ethic.

dansangel: I feel you slipping away from the liberal, righteous side and stepping over into the wild side of knuckle-dragging, right-wing whackos….

From left: A Henry Moore sculpture in downtown Dallas, a Martial Arts display, also in Dallas and a Victorian home in Chinquapin Point.

Donaeus: In 2000, I became keenly interested in doing something, anything, to stop abortion and overturn Roe v. Wade.

dansangel: Wait until I get a hold of Billie….I came back from the Riviera for this?

Donaeus: I don't remember the exact event that caused me to seek out pro-life groups on the internet but the staggering numbers of young, unwed mothers and the murder of abortion clinic doctors weighed heavily on my mind. Abortion is one of the most despicable acts devised by man and as much as I want the practice ended, I do not in any way advocate individuals or groups who carry out violence against abortion providers.

Those responsible for the deaths of unborn children deserve to meet with justice, but it must be dispensed by a judge and jury. Vigilantes acting outside the law are a greater threat to our safety and security than the men and women the vigilantes seek to stop.

Gulls as seen from the ferry to Galveston.

dansangel: There you have it, my loyal and loving fans. Another hard-hitting Inquisition from yours truly. Until I am off to who-knows-where to deliver another gutsy grilling, Ta-Ta for now and have a Merry Christmas, er uh, I mean, "Season's Greetings."

And so what if it does -- people should be OK with lighthearted fun too.

Christ's birth is a joyful occasion. I don't think something like that would be appropriate for Good Friday, though - of course you *know* that - just an example. :-)

The little darling is snoozing under my chair. He should be up soon. Took him for his yearly shots last Tue and the groomers Wed so he'd look handsome for Christmas.

Thank you very much Free!!! I feel very honored.

Between you and me, I still feel pretty much like a tomboy although on rare occasions I do feel like a lady.

I'm glad you are back Wolfie, you have been missed!

Let not your heart be troubled Louie. I'm not a hunter and I would never shoot a wolf unless I was in imminent danger. My grandfather taught me about conservation of nature so I know wolves are an important part of our ecosystem. Besides all that they're also beautiful and fascinating animals. :)
