I was thinking this afternoon that we need here a new PING LIST for all those who think some Eddie B.B.Van Clapton is this century's Mozart, and some other halfwit a "greatest rhythm guitarist in the universe! EVER!" Fandom without an inch of detachment or perspective. Let's call it, oh, the TIGER BEAT PING LIST!
This really seems to have gotten under your skin. It's only an opinion, and it's all in fun.

When I chew warm gum, it sounds like:
Ob-la-di Ob-la-da Ob-la-day-ah, la-la-la-la
But life goes on...

Yoko sounded like the inside of a machine shop. Very disturbing.

Without Lennon's weird edge, Paul was nothing but bubblegum pop.Without Paul's pop sense, Lennon was nothing but edgy and weird. I don't know if I agree 100%....... but would say this is one of the most perceptive assessments of the Lennon-McCartney magic that produced such broadly appealing music.
And it became more obvious after they split up.

I remember this event as if it were yesterday...I was actually getting ready for work (night shift at McDonald's in my hometown in New Jersey) when the news broke...it was surreal, quite a shock, that a famous Rock Star had just been assassinated. And I had just purchased the single "Woman" that had come out not too long before the tragedy happened. Terrible shame.

Neither alone were as good as they were together.
I can't deny that. But if you take a look at their most poplar songs it was Paul's melody and a mix (I think) of Paul and John working together on the lyrics. Paul was philosphically light and John was heavy. So instead of Paul playing with sheep and John being deep and heavy you got a great song with good lyrics.

'Surreal', exactly. That's the word I was trying to think of.
Interesting that you were going to work at McDonald's that late at night. Were they open all night back then?

Woman. How about that crummy song? Who can do something with that. This song is proof of crud.

What's gotten under my skin is the utter lack of distance. Time to put away the childish things, no?
Last weekend I stumbled on some PBS program where old men and old women in the audience were singing along with Brian Hyland who, to his credit looked rather hip like Neil Young circa 1970, singing along to Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie. I cringed, felt embarassed, and heard no difference between that and some early Beetle songs I had half heard in the background at some grocery store earlier in the day.
Good they were at their time, but can we say anything besides these pedestrian and worn fan observations about the contribution of Paul vs the contribution of John, etc? Come on, for shame...

Yeah, they had their share of crap, too.
'Hey Jude' and 'My Sweet Lord' are two of the worst beatings of a song in the history of music.

Yes, all us Beatles fans are childish and you are the wise old sage.

Why are you wasting your time here then, Grandpa?

I don't think any of the Beatles wrote "Twist and Shout".
