Sharpton, NYC Reach $200,000 Settlement

NEW YORK (AP)--New York City has agreed to pay $200,000 in damages to Al Sharpton after he was stabbed nearly 13 years ago at a protest where he said police failed to protect him.

The settlement, which also covers the Democratic presidential candidate's $7,447.76 hospital bill, came as jury selection was to begin Monday in his decade-old civil case against the New York Police Department.

Sharpton claimed police were ``careless, negligent and reckless'' during the 1991 incident, said his lawyer, Sanford Rubenstein. Sharpton, a civil rights activist, was protesting what he considered lenient sentencing of white defendants in the 1989 killing of Yusuf Hawkins, a black teenager.

The city's law department on Monday defended the NYPD's actions, but said it agreed to the settlement because the city could not predict how a jury might rule.

Sharpton said he still fears large crowds as a result of the stabbing, and has a one-inch scar on his chest.

His attacker, Michael Riccardi, was convicted of first-degree assault and sentenced to the maximum of five to 15 years in prison.

Okay I went back and checked the articles at the time of the incidents and your version appears to be correct. Sharpton was doing his inciting after Yankel Rosenbaum was killed not before which is not much better, but he was spitting on Yankel's grave more than putting him in it.

In terms of knowing the name of the kid hit in the car accident you are correct I don't know his name, nor do I know the names of any of the other tens of thousands of people killed in road accidents each year. His like all others was certainly a tragedy but hardly a reason to murder people or for Sharpton to incite hatred. In the Freddy's incident in Harlem I believe his incitement did precede the violent deaths that took place.

The day of the settlement, Dec. 8, is the eighth anniversary of the fatal fire at Freddy's store in Harlem. I will not repeat any of the dastardly claims that Mr. Sharpton's words may have inflamed the atmosphere and perhaps incited whoever set the fire.

Is anyone connected to the fire suing Al? Now that he has money, it might be worth going after him. At least, it would force him to use the money defending himself and he won't see any profit from this personally.

Couldn't you have put a censored sign over that? My mind has been scarred for life by seeing Al Sharpton's nipple.

He will never admit that his words could have caused that disaster (Freddys). Words mean things.

This is guaranteed to give me nightmares. This is going to scar my mental health. Sharpton has bigger boobs than I do. You'll be hearing from my lawyer.

Gavin Cato, seven years old. Two tragedies. one accidental, one murder. The killer is in prison serving 19 years.

Sharpton is all you say he is and likely more. My point is simply this; there is enough truth to hang him without dilluting our position.

I for one am glad that he's on the scene. The dims will have to share a national podium with him and smile while they do it. We won't.

I remember that the murderers were all acquitted in a race baiting trial then convicted in a federal (ignore the double jeopardy) trial. It is a case where everything was wrong even the eventual process that got the bad guys. I seem to remember hearing that the Federal convictions were under some kind of cloud. I am not sure if the savages get to wait for the system to work that out in prison or out.

His name is Steven Pagones, Esq., and I believe he's yet to see a dime from his suit against Sharptongue whose excuse is that his wife holds all the assets.

And of course he immediately applied it against the money he owes to the Police Officers unfairly fined after the fraudulent Tawana Brawley charade!

You would of needed a claymore to get through all that blubber and bulls**t....

Or maybe a pike, a 18 footer, the kind the Scots had when they defeated the Persians at Thermopoly.

I know you think the Scots did everything, sheep thief, but that would be us, the Greeks at Thermopylae.

By the way, it's the 21st century, time to wash the blue paint off. I'm tired of having to clean the ponies after I steal 'em back.

Those people, who now call themselves 'Greek', mearly moved into my peoples abandonded structures.( We left due to massive rates of skin cancer and a rash of finacial scandals at home. ) Anyways, the socalled "Greeks", were nomadic flatbread makers who wandered down from the north, their wives and children dragging huge flat ovens behind them, with their pipe smoking menfolk sitting on top.

At least we knew what women were for, unlike the constantly shrinking population of Scots who only use women to bring them whiskey and occasionally as footstools.

Someone is doing an incredible job of protecting him, evidenced by the fact that he isn't getting the crap beaten out of him every day.
