Well, I wouldn't say it's lawless. But we do have some very liberal judges.
Maybe the reason this stands out, is because most people cop a plea. (as ambrose and ican'tbelieveit both suggested)

You know, I would think that if this were an out of the blue, one time behavior. But, unfortunately, this man has a history of disobeying speed limits.

Even if it is reduced to probation, I would not want to see him serving in public office again.

Diabetes is a serious illness, and I don't think most Americans knows how it affects us on a daily level. I guess the jury just threw the "reasonable doubt" doctrine into the trash.

No one is saying that diabetes is not a serious illness. My sister suffers with diabetes. She has set times of day that she has her meals.

This supreme jerk knows how serious his condition is. If he did not eat all day then not only was he jeopardizing himself, he was putting the lives of others in jeopardy. And the result is, he's guilty.

Even when I heard that was the excuse he was given, it was unacceptable to me. There is no excuse why he did not grab something somewhere to eat, knowing his condition if you buy his excuse.

The jury wasn't permitted to hear testimony of his past speeding tickets. Honestly, I think they knew all about his past, and that influenced their decision.

What was to be gained by Daschle's testimony anyway? That he was truthful?

He knew he had diabetes, and testified that he went 18 hours without eating and then got behind the wheel.

He probably wolfed down a double meat double cheese burger with mayo and a super size order of onion rings and a coke 30 minutes prior to the hitting, killing and speeding away.

Janklow can get 10 years and a $10,000 dollar fine. The lie itself for someone in his positon is worth the 10 years.

I don't know what state you live in, but a manslaughter conviction doesn't even make the news in Texas.

Dog Gone remember the woman that hit a man in Fort Worth and the poor man remainded stuck in her windshield overnight or a couple of days and bleed to death while she was having sex with her boyfriend. Later they dispose of the mans body.

What was the charge? Was it 1st degree?

There's no crime of 1st degree murder in Texas, like in many other states.

She was charged and convicted of murder.

The only other offense that is worse in Texas is Capital Murder, but that requires either multiple murders or some very specific other felonies that weren't present in that particular crime.

This supreme jerk knows how serious his condition is. If he did not eat all day then not only was he jeopardizing himself, he was putting the lives of others in jeopardy. And the result is, he's guilty.

But that's not what happened. The EMT who responded to the scene was on NBC tonight; he testified at trial that he specifically asked Janklow if he had eaten that day and Janklow said "Yes" and that "My blood sugar is fine"

The whole Diabetes Defense was bogus and was manufactured long after the accident when charges were filed

I agree. Allowing him to resign "with full honors as a Great Public Servant" is a pile of elephant dung. (Pun Intended!) Totally unacceptable.

He's used up his second chances years ago. He needs to be ousted immediately.
