He endorses, the potential candidate implodes, and the clintons leave no fingerprints. Of course, he's too stupid to realize he's just a patsy. I'd like a peek at the DNC's internal polling numbers. If this is the scenario...they've got to be pretty darn sure Dean will lose the general election!

I just waded through the crap at DU to see the reaction to the Gore endorsement, and for the most part, they all seem to think that they just won the lottery.

It is still amazing that Al Gore isn't being considered as the Prime Democrat Candidate this time around. After all, word on the street was that he got more votes than Bush...So wouldn't it make sense to give him another shot in 2004? Doesn't figure.
Hillary needs to keep herself visible, and I predict she will accept the Vice-Presidental nomination this time around. She's running herself ragged these days. There is nothing for her to lose...because if the Rats don't win, than she has had the exposure to run for President in 2008...IMHO.
It's between her and Gore..and this is war. Can't wait to hear Susan Estrich on this.

It's not just 2000. Much more recently, the Clintons got Gore to shut down any plans for a 2004 run by getting all the donors to shut their wallets to him. Sounds right. And I think their boy Clark was a surprising failure to them.

You would think so, but I don't think Al has really "mended his fences". At least not here in TN. He taught a few classes, but I viewed it more as people rubber-necking than actually caring about him.I was thinking of the primaries. It would seem that Gore would help Dean solidify his standing with the base and makes it more difficult for every other candidate. I don't think (at least at this point) it helps in the general election though.

I know. Lieberman isn't much better than most liberal Democrats, but he was a decent human being. He didn't deserve this.

Has Gore turned his back on the DNC?No, he wants to be the DNC. Dean becomes de facto leader of the DNC when he gets the nomination, McAuliffe is out and the Dean and Gore choice is in. Dean will pay Gore plenty in favors for this endore.
