Welfare, Medicare, Social Security, food stamps -- horrors, they breed dependency. Whereas inheriting millions of dollars and having your whole life handed to you on a platter is good for the grit in your immortal soul?

Proof that the stupid b***h is a communist. And that communists aka socialists aka progressives aka Dem'o'craps are just envious of others who are more successful. (I couldn't stand to read much of the article.)

I did notice the "hideously infair" tax cut. Well, I was glad to have MY freaking taxes cut - and I am far from rich.

Where in the operating manual for human existence does it say that every individual must be exactly the same and have exactly the same outcome and advantages as everyone else?

Ivins is so bitter, angry and full of hate that I will not be surprised if she succumbs to serious illness in the near future.

I never said that there was a president without flaws.

What I said was that Saint Jack of the Compound was a lying, drug addicted, cripple who stole the 1960 presidential election with the help of his criminal father's money and the socialists admire him for it.

Or don't you read for comprehension?

Probably the only reason that dumbo Carter just lusted in his heart was because Roz was the only broad he could find that was stupid enough to sleep with the egomaniacal mean-spirited little twirp.

I do have to agree w/ Molly Ivans that most people who are born into vast wealth have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what it's like to be poor (or even middle class). They have no clue. None. And I would surmise that in this regard she might be right about the president.

I'm not sure I agree with this. There are many things I have never personally experienced, but still have knowledge of. Just because a heart surgeon never had a heart attack does not mean the surgeon does not have a pretty solid understanding of what it's like to have a heart attack.

Moreover, what would be the solution? Only poor people, or people who were born poor can be President?

The main problem with Ivens, and with most liberals, is that they take it for granted that their philosophy is correct, and therefore never support any of their factual contentions, i.e., that this policy is hurting people, or that policy is hurting the environment.

I have never seen a column wherein Molly actually makes an intellegent point. All she ever does is make personal attacks. But, in her mind, she is making highly intelligent arguments. That is what is truly sad. The fact that we have an entire portion of america (liberals) who are unable to actually think through issues and come up with reasons to support and be against something. People like Ivens are bad for democracy because instead of having rational debates of the merits of a policy, they argue that their opponents are stupid and evil. Therefore, policy is not arrived at after it has been developed through rigorous debate and modification.

Why post a link to the LA Times if one isn't a registered user?

I would absolutely concede that I would be shocked if some lady came out of the woodwork confessing her lifelong passion and affair with Carter...

I appreciate your concern for my comprehension capability. Thank you.

Actually, even more ironic about Kennedy is that the sins of his father were not visited upon him... His transgressions are very common knowledge...

However, the point does need to be made that all Presidents have flaws and tit-for-tat is OK but gets us nowhere.

And I can assure you that though there is a St. John, I do not think JFK was the one who they have in mind...

I would ask what flaws do you think are acceptable in a President and which ones are not.

Bush and Kennedy come from money. They both have father's with influence. They both have questionable extracurricular activities. They both could be accused of taking a little too good care of friends and family...
That is what politics are about...

Did you wish to compare or contrast Bush and Kennedy?

How do you conclude that Carter was/is an egomaniac?

Part of not being a bot is realizing that even liberals are right sometimes.

Now, if you were to tell me that two of four presidents on Mount Rushmore are Republicans and none are Democrats, I would have to agree completely...

Flawed men all, but did a good job in the office...

And those with privileged childhoods had no sense of commonality with the average citizen, either. It's impossible for them to do so.
Tell me, when you people think of W, do you imagine like a halo above his head, or angel wings fluttering behind him, or a WWJD bracelet glittering on his wrist? The man's an obvious elitist, no matter how much you want to fantasize away what he's doing to this country.

You people amuse me: "Oh, you bad man, don't criticise our saint, you liberal, you!"

Here's some news. Criticism of your hero does not equal liberal.

How is he more of an elitist than, say, Al Gore or John Kennedy?

She's obsessed! A Texas native or at least resident, she has persecuted the Bushes for years.

Mentally ill at best.

Actually, I consider him in the same class of elitist, along with FDR, George Washington, and, even, General Lee. Class exists in our country, and thinking you can chum around with one of these people is juvenile.

Maybe we should start writing letters to Molly and urge her to run for governor in 2006. She might take us up on it and stop her column as a result.

I met W back in 82 when I was attending Odessa College. He was nice enough and I do think he was acting like he had some God given right to act superior... However, I think I would have been in need of drug testing if I had asked him if he wanted to meet me at Steak and Ale or Harrigan's for lunch...

Back then, all he had was his name... You have to give him credit for choosing his parents very well. :-)

And in all walks of life, there is that separation that is not spoken of but ever present... I was thinking about someone who was hanging out in with Sinatra in Vegas... Sinatra asked a waitress for a drink. The person told him that he should tell the waitress to bring him what he wanted, not ask for it. His position was, "Regular people ask; Important people order!"...
