What's the New "Pager" Icon About? (Vanity Request for Help)
Free Republic
Posted on 12/07/2003 4:31:44 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest
I noticed this morning that a little speaker icon had popped up next to my screen name, and when I let the browser settle on it, the word "pager" appears. When I click on it, it just takes me to my comments, same as clicking on "New Messages."
Could someone please explain this innovation? Thanks.

you're off the Today Show ping list again! There's a Today Show ping list?
Why?
I think that's the real question here.

I do semi-regular posts highlighting liberal bias on The Today Show and other morning news shows.

Thanks for clearing this up - it was driving me nuts! I'm still trying to figure out why everyone else seemed to know all this but I could never find an explanation. Am I missing something somewhere?
Thanks again

I've never had a problem with it either and I've been using it since it was first added, more than 2 years ago. If you are using pop-up stopper, you have to hold down either the control or the shift key to allow the little window to open, or with pop-up stopper pro you can set it to not stop pop-ups on FR. That way you can open new windows and the pager without having to hold down another key. I love my FReeper Beeper. I think it is one of FR's best features.

I do semi-regular posts highlighting liberal bias on The Today Show I don't know how you can stand to watch that show. But I guess somebody's got to keep an eye on 'em.

Yours lights up? Mine has never done that; however, it has always chimed. You were probably tinkering with it and broke it.

When it's your flag, that means you are being pinged to messages on your state board. If you click on the flag, it will take you there.

My cat torments me every morning. He thinks it's part of his job. And the older he gets (he's pushing 16) the worse he is. Now he thinks that any part of my face is fair game when I'm sleeping trying to sleep. I get these "love pats" all over my face, with claws slightly out (kneading style), a wet nose in the eye or against bare skin, or if he is resigning himself to another half hour in bed, he makes that announcement by sprawling his entire body across my face. He doesn't get why that doesn't work for me.

It doesn't exactly light up, it turns from dull gray to bright blue.
I probably did break it, because it did chime when it was new. I wonder if John would give me a new one?

"The feature is that it automatically refreshes a couple times a minute.... notifying of new replies or mail even if you are up walking around or attempting to get a life...." Of course, with that feature enabled, attempts at getting a life are frequently interrupted by the pager, reminding you that you have no life. What? yours doesn't say that?

" Where does one go to post a new thread now ?" If you are browsing all forums, you have to go to the specific forum you want to post to, then "post" appears in the upper right hand corner like it always did.

"I probably did break it, because it did chime when it was new. I wonder if John would give me a new one?" I'll bet you're one of those people that is always screwing up thier secret decoder rings too. If you break more than 3, John will make you fix it with tinfoil and duct tape. These things take time you know.
