Currently F.D.R. is beating Reagan 74% to 26% regarding CNN.com's new poll: "Whose image should be on the dime?" F.D.R. is the anthithesis of all we stand for, and his New Deal has been a Raw Deal. Monticello's apparently going to be shed from the back of the nickel, and isn't it time that Mr. Tax-cuts Reagan replaced the Donkeys' favorite socialist president?

By that token, let's remove Reagan's name from Reagan National Airport so that future generations can't remove it against our posthumous will.
No thanks.

Capitalists rescued us from the Great Depression and a potential Bolshevik Revolution by spending more than ever before on advertising. A consumer culture was born unlike ever before, and the Puritan work-ethic and entrepreneurial spirits spread like wildfire. FDR created a culture of entitlements that shackle us with exorbitant tax rates and little in return.
Meanwhile, they say FDR got us into WWII by ignoring warnings of an impending attack on Pearl Harbor. FDR sacrificed the few in order to anger the many and get us revved up for war. Hardly an ideal approach, and it certainly wouldn't have survived scrutiny today.
Do the Reagans want to name Reagan National Airport after FDR? Read between the lines here. By saying they don't want Reagan currency, the cause is more likely to strike a sympathetic chord among potential proponents. The Reagans didn't get where they have by being stupid.

I think this is premature. A living person should not be on our coinage or stamps. This is a longstanding tradition that I would be loath to break. President Reagan will probably not be with us for too terribly many more years unfortunately. At that time, commemorating his presidency would be more appropriate.

FDR created a culture of entitlements that shackle us with exorbitant tax rates and little in return. Who were these capitalists that saved us from the Great Depression and when did they do it? President Hoover certainly didnt help by attempting to balance the budget when demand for goods and services was drying up. Remember the Depression was in place four years before FDR was even elected.
When actually did this advertising surge occur and how big an increase was it? The consumer culture didnt develop until after World War II following years of pentup demand and price controls.
FDR may have started Social Security but the bulk of the entitlement society didnt arrive until the 60's and the programs and tax bite were relatively small until the 70's and 80's when the Democrats and Republicans increased taxes to pay for them.
Meanwhile, they say FDR got us into WWII by ignoring warnings of an impending attack on Pearl Harbor.
Who is they? The Illuminatti followers? The conspiracy kooks? FDR was preparing the nation for war during the late 30's and early 40's. He was wise enough to see that Hitler wasnt going to be satisfied with mainland Europe regardless of what the kook Buchannan thinks.
The Reagans didn't get where they have by being stupid.
Not so sure that you can say the same about yourself.

FDR was IMO the worst president of the 20th century give or take Wilson(including Hoover, Klinton, and LBJ).

FDR was IMO the worst president of the 20th century give or take Wilson(including Hoover, Klinton, and LBJ). You left out Carter. Gas lines, economic recession, very high interest rates, the Iran hostages, and ineffectual world leader. He has to be among the worst of the 20th century. Im not familiar enough to rate the more obscure Presidents from before Teddy Roosevelt.

Forget about him.
Not to mention he was a good buddy of Coleman Young(who wrecked Detroit).

Coinage isn't changed overnight. Changes at the mint take time. It seems better to start now, while fury over the anti-Reagan miniseries is still around. Meanwhile, I'll continue being furious about the New Deal with the Raw Deal. Do you think you'll get to collect social security?

Here's perhaps the best book on the subject, and the reviews posted there are helpful:

And the seeds of that entitlement mentality were planted by FDR. We'll have plenty more tax increases coming up, thanks to it.
>>>The Reagans didn't get where they have by being stupid.<<<
>Not so sure that you can say the same about yourself.<
You're absolutely right. I didn't get where I am by being stupid. If you meant something else by that, then may I ask to whom your OTHER three fingers are pointing when you're pointing your index one at me?
