Darn it, Carlo, you've done it again. Managed to make me cry upon reading another of your beautiful writings.
I was just thinking about this very issue today and feeling depressed about it. However, I'm optimistic that the great pendulum will once again swing toward the day when we can once again truly celebrate CHRISTMAS.

Whatever Happened To Christmas
Whatever happened to Christmas
Where is the holly and the big tree
Where is the stable and Holy Family
Theres no joy without the Nativity
They took the Christ out of Christmas
His name was crossed off of that list
They said the court house was public
No stable, no tree, and no Nativity
I heard all the stories of Christmas
The star, the Wise Men, and the gifts
But now, theres no more Christmas
They say because He just doesnt fit
All of the stores used to display Him
All said Merry Christmas for a reason
It was the greeting of the Holy season
With Carols that were sung by the legions
Well, its time to bring back Christmas,
To string holly on the tree with its lights
Its time to remake winter snowflakes of white
To blanket Christs stable on Christmas Night
I heard all the stories of Christmas
The star, the Wise Men, and the gifts
But now, theres no more Christmas
They say because He just doesnt fit
Bring back the Wise Men, under the star
Gather round the stable and gaze afar
Glance at His majesty, through the Christmas story
Sing Merry Christmas, share in His glory
Praise the Baby Jesus, born on Christmas Day
Bring back His stable, bring joy to the world
Merry Christmas to all, lets blessings unfold
The birth of the Savior, a story that must be told
Merry Christmas To All
And Christmas Greetings To All During The Holy Season

Carlo3b, Christmas is at my house.
You're welcome to join us! We celebrate old-fashioned-like here. We even had an old fashioned tree cutting with the whole family last weekend, just like the last few years.
A couple of years ago, we even did a no-light christmas tree, just pretending it was a hundred years ago.
So c'mon over!

Carlo, come to my house! It is all Christmasy, and I am singing and playing carols already. At work this week, shoppers are looking for just the right gift for their loved ones and friends.
The beauty of being an antique dealer is that during this time of year, our customers come in knowing what they want! Their Aunt Sally collects snoopy figurines, or Uncle Bill searches year round for wood golf clubs. It is fun to help them find their treasures among all of the little cubby holes filled with yesterday. The items are happy too, cause they get to go to a new home and start life all over again! They thought they were all used up, but there is always someone who is out there wishing for them, remembering how much happiness they had brought them all those years ago. (yes, that is a professional opinion! )
I love this season, so maybe I refuse to see those who don't have the spirit ! I just assume everyone is happy about it! I wear my jingle bells necklace, hum or sing "Jingle Bells" as I go around the aisles in the store and make everyone get in the spirit! :-) So far it has worked, most people respond and are soon smiling and laughing and singing along. Or maybe they are scared of me? LOL!

Carlo,
A short story...
Mom came for Thanksgiving, I was worried about her visit, but figured, she could make the pie pastry, again, and then I wouldn't feel guilty that I never learned how! Well, she declined on making the pastry and told me to buy the store-bought (GASP! I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS ALLOWED!)
So, I did as told. Got out the canned pie filling, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, eggs, milk, etc... Mom said, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" I said, "I'm going to make a pie, with you." She said, "What is all that stuff? I have NEVER made pumpkin pie by having to add ALL of those ingredients, why didn't you buy the canned pumpkin pie mix?"
I was in shock... NEVER knew such a thing existed! But, now I can say, and Mom will agree, that I taught her how to make pumpkin pie! :) I FEEL REDEEMED!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Carlo, beautiful Christmas sentiments. I also miss the Bethleham scenes in front of city halls and parks, and hearing church bells ring out the carols.
Let's bring Christmas back!

For those of us who have lost loved ones in the last year I present to you a poem by John Wm. Mooney Jr. Merry Christmas From Heaven
I still her the songs
I still see the lights
I still feel your love
on cold wintry nights
I stll share your hopes
and all of your cares
I'll even remind you to please say your prayers.
I just want to tell you
you still make me proud
You stand head and shoulders
above all the crowd
Keep trying each moment
to stay in His grace
I came here before you
to help set your place.
You don't have to be
perfect all of the time.
He forgives you the slip
If you continue to climb.
To my family and friends
please be thankful today
I'm still close beside you
In a new special way
I love you all dearly
now don't shed a tear
Cause I'm spending my
Christmas with Jesus this year.

Doggone it, Carlo....a three-hanky post, indeed. I think so many of us are gently haunted by memories of warm Christmases past when it seemed there were not so many political and international traumas and pressures bearing down on us as there are today.
By the way folks, I gave some "Clinton Legacy" freeper cookbooks for presents last Christmas. What a great gift! In fact, the books almost brought the whole family gift-giving orgy to a halt as the books were opened and then thumbed through immediately, and passed around the circle. Chuckles and oohs-and-ahs all around.
I recommend you order some right away for your family members and friends. Who on earth doesn't want a fresh, new cookbook....especially one chock full of great freeper recipes and terrific freeper humor on each page?

Won't you help me find Christmas, I know it's somewhere..Yep, I'll help you. Go to your local church, one that's having a play where all of the actors and actresses are children. And the story line is straight out of the Gospel of Luke.
I GUARANTEE you, you'll find Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS, Carlo, and everyone else!

Well done!!!! Not the hamburger, your post!!! Good Christmas cheer and spirit. I'm Jewish but like the Christmas season and have zero problem with Christmas displays. In the public square and elsewhere.
Matter of fact we drove around the neighborhood last night checking out the displays and lights.
Christmas takes place during the darkest days of the year and helps us psychologically to get over the hump and look forward to spring with it increased daylight, warmth and plant growth. This "hump" can be serious if you don't have stores of food and a good autumn harvest. Winter presents the challenge of surviving in Northern climates. Thus, Winter made man's brains and intellect grow.

The real spirit of Christmas is all around us, all year round. You won't find it in malls and department stores. Nor will you find it in most television shows, and least of all Hollywood.
Where you will find the real Spirit of Christmas is all around us, in Salvation Army Shelters, with the Sisters of Charity in India and other poverty spots, with all the hundreds of volunteers looking for Dru Sjodin in the Midwest, in the faces of all the ordinary people around us doing extraordinary things day after day for no personal reward.
That's the REAL Spirit of Christmas.
