I'm so sick of Al Queda. It's not that they're powerful. They're like flying insects on a camping trip -- annoying, not terribly dangerous. But their endless buzzing is madding and disturbs sleep.

Which is one of the primary reasons we have imbedded ourselves right smack dab in Iraq in the Middle East. A fact that is rarely noted or even applauded.

The important question is, now that both sides are engaged in the war, can the terrorists really bring it on. It's fairly easy to blindside someone, but can they prevail against our opposition?

I don't doubt that we will win in the sense of being able to contain the threat at a level that will allow the West to continue to survive and prosper.

However, we will not completely eradicate Islamic fundamentalism, and it may in fact get much worse.

I fully expect further attacks at least on the scale of Sept 11, and I think top defense officials do, too.

The West has been under threat from Islam for over 1300 hundred years, and I just don't see it going away in our lifetimes.

The West has been under threat from Islam for over 1300 hundred years, and I just don't see it going away in our lifetimes. How long did it take to defeat communism, and is it not still around? How long did it take to make the streets of New York safe from crime, and are they perfectly safe? I'm not sure what your point is. Do you give roaches free run of your house because you can't eliminate them?

I would not be surprised to see a small nuclear device detonated in both Wash, D.C. and NYC.

According to the media, the world is already against us, right? The scenario you present is frighteningly plausible, but consider:

The UN, if it sends foreign troops in to take our guns, will start a war they cannot win - it will indeed be tragic and, with their body armour and equipment, intially lopsided in casualty ratio (until we start using the equipment we have taken off their dead bodies against them), but they cannot subdue us - we WILL triumph. Not a pretty picture, for sure, but the "militia of flight 93" proved the metal of the "average American", and I'm confident that this spirit will, ultimately, bring us out on top. "We'll put a boot in [their] a$$, that's the American way!" (with all due apologies to Toby Keith).

I just hope and pray it never comes to the point you and I are discussing!
