The important question is, now that both sides are engaged in the war, can the terrorists really bring it on. It's fairly easy to blindside someone, but can they prevail against our opposition?

I don't doubt that we will win in the sense of being able to contain the threat at a level that will allow the West to continue to survive and prosper.

However, we will not completely eradicate Islamic fundamentalism, and it may in fact get much worse.

I fully expect further attacks at least on the scale of Sept 11, and I think top defense officials do, too.

How long did it take to make the streets of New York safe from crime, and are they perfectly safe? I'm not sure what your point is. Do you give roaches free run of your house because you can't eliminate them?
