I am pro teachers, (my daughter is a teacher, as are my 2 nephews and a niece). However, in this case, I think THE TEACHER needs to be dealt with. I would contact the administration of your school and ask why a teacher is allowed to shove his beliefs down his students throats!!!!!

I don't know that refuting that a-hole is a wise strategy. Do we really think we can convince him? If not, why refute? Why not allow your daughter to effectively and dispassionately present the vegan argument? No harm done to her. And she stands a better chance of getting a good grade. Depends what sort of lesson you want her to learn from this.

The teacher should define what she means by "better". If she defines "better" as "animals not being killed by humans for food", then she should be asked then what motivation would farmers have to keep livestock? If everybody stopped eating meat, there would be no reason for cows, pigs, chickens, etc to continue to exist as species

Forget that. Call the principal and insist that the teacher stick to the ****ing curriculum she's being paid to teach. I suspect that is NOT nutrition.

Also insist that she show an extreme level of TOLERANCE for the cultural views and dietary customs of others. Threaten to sue for making your meat-eating child "feel bad".

Do this every time she brings up the vegan crap. Get your child's classmate's parents in on it too, if you can.

My daughter is being indoctrinated by her 7th grade teacher who is spouting the PETA line about how the world would be a better place if everbody was vegan

Me first reply is "Would you care to prove that?"

Then just apply a little logic. The animals that we eat convert inedible grasses on unfarmable land into edible meat. The amount of quality farmland required to provide sustinance for humanity would go through the roof. It is doubltful that the earth could support the human population as vegan. "Who would you choose to die so that the world can be vegan?"

Humans posess canine teeth, albeit diminished. Such is the dentition of carnivores.

It is no less natural for humans to eat meat, fish, or poultry than any other creature with similar dentition. It would be unnatural not to.

Time for the teacher to handle the fact that despite our technology and "higher" thought processes, we are animals in our most basic biology.

7 Things You Didn't Know About PETA

PETA has stated repeatedly that their goal is "total animal liberation." This means no pets, no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no fishing, no leather, and no animal testing for lifesaving medicines.

PETA has given tens of thousands of dollars to convicted arsonists and other violent criminals.

PETA funds the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine 3, an animal-rights organization that presents itself as an unbiased source for nutritional information and has links to a violent animal-rights group called SHAC.

PETA has used their contributors’ tax-exempt donations to fund the North American Earth Liberation front, an FBI-certified “domestic terrorist” group responsible for fire bombs and death threats.

PETA regularly targets kids as early as elementary school with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda.

PETA spends less than one percent of its $13 million budget actually caring for animals.

PETA has repeatedly attacked groups like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, for conducting animal testing to find cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases.

Find a good nutritian site on the net. Have your daughter read it.

Meat is a critical source of B vitamins, which are necessary to maintain a healthy nervous system (caution daughter not to point out to 'teach' she may be a bit in need). B vitamins cannot be stored in the human body so it is necessary to replentish every day.

Someone advocating to children that they eliminate meat from their diet is, IMHO, encouraging them to eat unbalanced meals. Which of course can lead to a long laundry list of physical ailments.

She should stick to here job of teaching the subjects, these government schools have become nothing but liberal, socialist propaganda mills. And we pay out the A** for TO finance them!

Screw the refuting.

Go over her head and talk to the School Superintendant. Your tax dollars are not for paying your daughters educator to brainwash her via special interest groups.

I'd threaten lawsuit.

And another thing: Does the teacher intend for all meat animals currently in the feeding cycle chain suddenly be turned loose to roam the countryside? How will she deal with that?

Domesticated livestock are really not able to forge for themselves. These animals depend on Farmers and Ranchers to feed and water them twice daily, every day of the year, regardless of the weather or whatever other occasion might be scheduled for that day.

The teacher is a twit. Who, in their right mind, would subject all these animals to wandering around in the elements and eventually starving to death?
