Dean raises party's anxiety

Democratic leaders and advisers say there is growing anxiety about the prospect of antiwar candidate Howard Dean becoming their presidential nominee next year, which has triggered talk of a "stop Dean" movement in the party.

These Democrats say that the concerns center in large part on Mr. Dean's bitter opposition to the war in Iraq that, they maintain, will make their party look weak on national security and the war on terrorism in next year's presidential election.

"Mr. Panetta's carefully worded remarks reflect widening fears among Democratic leaders here and elsewhere in the party — especially in the South — who say that Mr. Dean is too liberal, not just in his opposition to using military force to topple Saddam Hussein but in his call for repealing all of the Bush tax cuts, imposing regulations on businesses, erecting new trade-protection rules and favoring civil unions for same-sex "marriages."

OK, who let the horse out of the barn?

"There is a feeling that Dean is in many ways a rebuke of Clinton's policies. He is backing away from trade, wants to raise taxes on the middle class and comes across as someone who is not strong on national security," the adviser said.

so how is that different from xxxlinton?

[Dean]...will make their party look weak on national security....

Begging the Democrats pardon, but they don't need "Dean" to make them appear weak on national security. The Democrats have 9/11 and the events that led to the tragedy of that day to expose their weakness on national security.

Yeah, how horrible to have to run a candidate that isn't smart enough to keep their agenda under the table. They deserve Dean they just don't want what they deserve.

It must be so hard on them to have to look at that red faced, ranting little tyrant wanna be, spouting their true agenda face to face with the voting public, in the harsh light of day. Instead of their usual perifrial vision where they hide the awful reality of themselves, from themselves, and the American public by caking lipstick on that pig, and burying it's ugliness in political double speak and tired cliched retoric. What a hedious sight for voters to behold. To me it's beauuuutiful watching them panic over the mask being ripped from their face of evil.

Dean is the perfect liberal candidate, a tiny man with a big ego, who acts like a badly inflamed little hemroid, in serious need of being doused in Preparation H.

How can you compete with President Bush on the national security front?

They can't.

Looks like the economy is gone as an issue and (sadly) with the Medicare morass, so is the "free money to those who haven't earned it" card.

Dean's running hard left now, but I bet he jogs straight for the center if he gets the nomination... it'll be interesting to see what the Greens do at that point.

Go Nader, 2004 ;-)

They ALL are weak on national security and the war on terrorism. Even the party's token former general candidate doesn't know where to stand on the war with Iraq.

Maybe if Dean selects a vice presidential running mate they like--Larry Flynt, for example--they'll be more enthusiastic about his candidacy.
