That has traditionally been the VP's job, although Stainmaster B attended quite a few. Funerals?? I recall him attending ceremonies (photo ops) .. but not funerals

IIRC that picture had Maureen Dowd absolutely snake fascinated about Dubya's "package". She droned on about that for an editorial that was pretty amusing. I wondered how many single malts she had that day.

Yitzhak Rabin, King Hussein, King Hassan II, Ron Brown, Richard Nixon, Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi, Rep. Barbara Jordan, etc.. That is different then fallen soldiers ..
And if that is the criteria the left is using, the the left is wrong in their reporting

Funerals of US military killed in action - not heads of state and other VIPs
A little off subject, but does anyone remember when Hillary walked into Westminster for Princess Diana's funeral, grinning from ear to ear and waving like she was walking the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Kind of inappropriate behavior, wouldn't you say?

Has anyone found any evidence of a sitting American president attending a private funeral of a soldier killed in action? I don't recall hearing about any

I'm surprised it took 'em this long to start their whining and hand-wringing.Just wait until tomorrow.
Normally, every politician knows what every other politician is going to do and therefore can prepare responses before the event even takes place.
In this instance, no one knew it was coming, particularly the Dems. So, they are caught off guard, for now. They are not sure what to say.
But, by tomorrow morning the Dim talking points will have been E-mailed and faxed to every living, breathing Dim. You will hear the same criticism from every Dim interviewed.
Funny thing is, we all already KNOW what they are going to say. They are so predictable it is just getting to easy.

So all they have is their usual "we support the troops but are against the war" stance How can any reasonable observer conclude they support the troops?
All you have to do is watch their glee to report another American casualty to see that this is a lie.
It must be terrible to be a liberal. Can you imagine going out to get the newspaper and having your mood for that day depend on whether any American soliders died the day before? ("Damn, no soldiers dead today. I sure hope they kill two of them tomorrow.")

These people are simply beside themselves with penis envy!Of all the hundreds of comments on this story that I've read and heard today, I think yours sums up the Democratic/media (same thing) response most accurately and succinctly. Kudos!

Qoutes from "The Incredible Shrinking Democraps".
Better to have said, "Great move to bolster our troops' morale!"
Nah, I can't see 'em sayin' it either!

KEYWORDS FOR THE "LYING LIBERALS"
Are you questioning MY "patriotism"?
This bunch will say and do anything to unseat President Bush. The "lying liberals" have said for the past year to criticize their words and deeds is the same as questioning their "patriotism".
Expect that word to become their "blanket" in which they take "cover" for everything they do.

Of course this silly piece was written by a writer for the New York Times. He's got "WHINE" written all over his face, doesn't he?
This geek is also a regular guest on a local all-news station here, basil. Every time I see him, I just want to slap the TV screen. LOL

"They made their bed with that `Mission Accomplished' trip, and that's going to be around for a long time," he said. "That's not the last ad you will see with that. I will guarantee you that whoever the nominee is will have that image up."
Yeah, and next year President Bush's "mission accomplished" will be a free Iraq with a democratically elected governement, while the Democrats' would be Saddam still in power. I like Bush's position better.

This is a made-up issue and I'm sick of the Dems stating it. From a practical standpoint, the President could not attend all of these funerals and it's probably part of the reason that they don't. I know of no military people or their families who have ever expected the President to attend their own or their loved ones funeral should they have to make the supreme sacrifice. This is simply ridiculous and purely politically motivated!

NY1. That insufferable show where a bunch of NY Times writes have a roundtable every week. Bob Herbert's one of them too.
