From an article posted on FR back in March:

A century hence, people will still be reading the speech written by Lieutenant Colonel Tim Collins, the 42-year-old commander of The Royal Irish battle group, which he delivered to his troops in Kuwait on Wednesday afternoon, just hours before they went into battle. Imagine you are in the Kuwaiti desert, your face sandpapered raw, scared to your bowels and stoned on adrenalin, knowing you are about to fight, and kill, or die. And hear this.

[Here I took the liberty of taking Colonel Collins' speech and formatting it into Shakespearean blank verse.]

The enemy should be in no doubt
That we are his Nemesis,
And that we are bringing about his rightful destruction.

There are many regional commanders
Who have stains on their souls,
And they are stoking the fires of Hell for Saddam.
As they die
They will know their deeds have brought them to this place.
Show them no pity.
But those who do not wish to go on that journey,
We will not send.
As for the others,
I expect you to rock their world.

We go to liberate,
Not to conquer.
We will not fly our flags in their country.
We are entering Iraq to free a people,
And the only flag that will be flown in that ancient land
Is their own.
Don’t treat them as refugees,
For they are in their own country.

I know men who have taken life needlessly
In other conflicts.
They live with the mark of Cain upon them.
If someone surrenders to you,
Then remember they have that right in international law,
And ensure that one day
They go home to their family.
The ones who wish to fight,
Well, we aim to please.
If there are casualties of war,
Then remember,
When they woke up and got dressed in the morning
They did not plan to die this day.
Allow them dignity in death.
Bury them properly,
And mark their graves.

You will be shunned
Unless your conduct is of the highest,
For your deeds will follow you down history.
Iraq is steeped in history.
It is the site of the Garden of Eden, Of the Great Flood,
And the birth of Abraham.
Tread lightly there.
You will have to go a long way
To find a more decent, generous and upright people
Than the Iraqis.
You will be embarrassed by their hospitality,
Even though they have nothing.

There may be people among us
Who will not see the end of this campaign.
We will put them in their sleeping bags
And send them back.
There will be no time for sorrow.
Let’s leave Iraq a better place
For us having been there.

Our business now, is north.

What next- are we going to post the coordinates of all of our boomers? Or todays nuclear codes?

Those are specifics; what was posted was a generality that very well could have been the barn out back at Crawford (ALTHOUGH I personnely would not recommend such actions (posting under those conditions) in any case) ...

Supreme Leader: US` pro-democracy slogan a "shameful lie"

(RECASTS: ADDs further quotes)
Tehran, Nov 26, IRNA -- Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah
Seyed Ali Khamenei on Wednesday dismissed as a "shameful lie" the US
pro-democracy slogans and said public opinion in Iraq or any other
part of the world of Islam favors those who brand the US as enemy of
of Islam.

"They (Americans) are in fact against democracy because they
know that reference to public votes in Iraq or anywhere else in the
world of Islam today will prove that Muslim nations would elect those
who whole-heartedly consider Americans as enemies of Islam," said
Ayatollah Khamenei in his Eid-al-Fitr prayers sermons to multitudes of
worshipers here at Imam Khomeini Mosalla prayers ground.

The paramount leader said the US` bloody coups and crimes in
different parts of the world and Washington`s continued support for
dictatorial regimes prove real nature of the US President George W.
Bush`s claims.
Ayatollah Khamenei said that American occupiers have through such
"false" pro-democracy, freedom and human rights slogans put Iraqi
nation in a hard condition, leaving them no option other than campaign
against the occupiers.

Addressing American nation, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "You should
know that your government has through Iraq`s occupation pushed the US
into a quagmire and it further sinks into the swamp day by day."

The Supreme Leader said Iraqi people will resist the imposed
democracy or any other dictated establishment or law.

"The US government should know that it will fail to take Muslim
nations in the Middle East its captive even by raising its military
budget ten-folded because the great, struggling and noble Iranian
nation sets as a symbol for other nations, giving them lessons of
perseverance and prosperity," he added.

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the case of Palestine and said
despite abundant economic problems and massacre and suppression of
women, children and the youth in the occupied territories, the
defenseless and brave Palestinian nation continues to resist against
the tyrant occupiers by all means under blessing of Islam.
He said ongoing realities in the occupied lands prove that the
Zionists and Americans have been facing deadlock in dealing with
Palestinian nation.

He added that young Palestinian generation has been awakened and
understood from its religious beliefs and sentiments that they have no
way but resistance and self-sacrifice against the occupying enemy.

The Supreme Leader went on to say that the historical
understanding will guarantee Palestinian nation`s undoubted victory
and eventual defeat by the Zionist regime and the US government.

Referring to high turn out at the world Quds day rallies,
Ayatollah Khamenei said the World Quds Day mirrored overwhelming will
of Muslim nations for campaign against the US and Israel.

The Supreme Leader said the great, faithful and united Iranian
nation had proved on the World Quds Day the significance and
importance of its national will in the scene.

He said the Iranian nation had through its powerful and vigilant
defense of the oppressed Palestinian people showed its deep hatred
of Zionists and their American supporters, making Iran and the
Islamic Republic proud worldwide.

Concluding his sermons, Ayatollah Khamenei asked Iranian nation
to massively turn out at the seventh Majlis elections, slated for
March, so as to thwart enemy plots.

Not sure I would want to be on a plane with Hillary & Reid going into Baghdad after Bush has been there. Also since this is being widely reported they are flying in I would guess every terrorist with a SAM will be staking out that airport ready to shoot down anything that flies in.

Me thinks Hillary is safe. Muslims do not want the stench of pigs blood all over the place.

I should not have said that. But I couldn't resist.

The President did a great thing today.

And where's Bubba??

FREEDOM's Return to: Communist Vietnam>

I was in Saigon last week during the arrival of the USS Vandegrift (FFG 48) at Nha Trong Port.

It was every bit as moving to me, as what I imagine our soldiers felt in Baghdad today. Seeing the Navy enlisted and officers on shore leave in downtown Saigon was awsome. The Vietnamese people gave them a gracious welcome and stopped sailors on the streets to offer innumerable enthusiastic greetings.

The Hanoi government exercised its typical excess pride (e.g., having the Vandegrift's captain lay a wreath at the huge statue of Ho Chi Minh on Nguyen Hue Blvd.), but the overall message was extremely moving and important: it shows that the Hanoi government is finally prepared to move forward.

The Communism of Vietnam is a thin veneer atop 1,000 years of tradition and culture, and probably the result of the last century of domination by the French, Chinese, Japanese, and (according to Hanoi) America.

That veneer has finally been pierced, and this is how freedom will come to Vietnam: through commerce and a friendly attitude.

The Vietnamese have repeatedly proven that intimdation doesn't impress them one iota.

A wondeful move. Leaders lead from the front.

The effect on troop morale can not be underestimated.

The effect on the Iraqi people will be even more profound. Intelligence will get better, more and more Iraqi citizens will join with Americans to rebuild Iraq and Saddam will get a dime dropped on him sometime soon. President Bush's message to Iraq: "We're here, we're staying and we won't abandon you no matter the whining from the left".

The effect on democrats? Devastating. They will yelp and whine about how this President is reckless and a cowboy. Their problem is that Americans LIKE cowboys.

The effect on me? It makes me yearn to be young again. It makes me proud to be an American. It motivates me to get out the checkbook and the walking shoes to get this man re-elected.

God bless the CIC and the men and women who serve under him.
