President Bush secretly landed an hour ago and is currently eating Thanksgiving dinner at my undisclosed location. Anticipate a press release after he takes off.

I don't think there is a better way to celebrate thanksgiving other than thanking those that keep us
safe and free.
Our courageous President is setting an example for all of us to follow. Brave men are a delight! Bush 2004 !

Just now reading this thread. The guy who posted it just breached our President's security. I don't think that's cool.

The comments on DU are astounding. Several have complained that their Thanksgiving has been ruined. They are a whiny and pitiful lot!

Howie Kurtz was just whining on CNN that the president lied! LOL!

Might want to check out the details. It is my understanding the poster used "undisclosed location" in his original post, the location of Baghdad was added later and the thread was updated.

LOL...I just love the smell of a dry wit on Thanksgiving day. Fried turkey with the sweet dessert of a good belly laugh.

Peace and happiness to your family, Chris.

Would you people quit cluttering up FR with DU GARBAGE!!! Thank you.

I think it's important that we do this sometimes. This forum is American culture- live as it happens. I think it's good that we include occasional references to that which we oppose. We need a "Them" group here at FR. It's good for our own cohesion.

Plus, it's just part of historical record. These kinds of threads will be used by historians and writers one day as a historical reference. It is important for them that they see our ideological antithesis- as we see it.

Bush Goes to Iraq, Thanks U.S. Troops

Bush first began discussing a visit to Iraq for Thanksgiving five or six weeks ago, White House communications director Dan Bartlett said. After ordering the planning to proceed during his trip to Asia last month, Bush made the final decision to go on Wednesday, after a secure video conference call from his ranch with Vice President Dick Cheney, chief of staff Andrew Card and national security adviser Condoleezza Rice. White House officials went to extraordinary lengths to keep the trip a secret, fearing its disclosure would prompt terrorist attempts to kill him.

In a ruse staged in the name of security, White House deputy press secretary Claire Buchan put out word Wednesday — unknowingly, she said later — that Bush would be spending Thanksgiving in Texas with his wife, Laura, his parents and other family members. She even announced the dinner menu.

Only a handful of the president's top aides knew about the trip beforehand and Bush told reporters his decision was touch-and-go until the last minute. Even the president's parents were not told until they arrived at the ranch Thursday morning expecting to see their son for the Thanksgiving meal they would end up eating without him.

Instead, Bush had quietly slipped away from his home on Wednesday evening, in an unmarked vehicle and wearing a ballcap pulled down low over his forehead. He flew to Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington accompanied from Texas by two reporters and a few photographers summoned only hours before. There, he picked up a few aides and some more reporters sworn to secrecy, and made the switch to another plane inside a huge hangar for the long flight.

It was evening in Baghdad when the president's plane — which had flown the whole trip with its lights darkened and window blinds closed — landed under a crescent moon, with Bush himself in the cockpit to watch Air Force One pilot Col. Mark Tillman "bring it in."

"Had security been broken, that would have been a time when we would have been most vulnerable," Bush said.

Even then, the news of Bush's trip was not released until he was in the air on the way back to the United States.

"If this breaks while we're in the air we're turning around," Bartlett had told reporters.

It didn't.

The danger to our President was inherent in the activity, regardless of what is said or done here.

Actually, after five minutes of research, I now greatly beg to differ. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, this thread compromised the security of the President.

It is no secret that we have many honorable men and women in Iraq posting on this board. So one would say it certainly would not be a secret to the enemy. It would be easy enough to find out who is posting from Iraq on this board. In fact, we several of them very well. ChiefKujo is one of them.

If you follow ChiefKujo's posts, which can be observed by this link:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/site/user-posts?id=4311

You would know exactly what brigade he is in, and possibly even more information.

Yesterday (Wednesday morning), the following post was made in a thread about Hillary's trip to Iraq:

Yes, it's true.

It will be here, on Baghdad Int'l Airport
for Thanksgiving Dinner along with that
jerk from RI, (Reede I think it is).

We must attempt to contain the BOOs.

Also just learned that we'll be having
a suprise guest. We think it maybe X42,
but aren't sure.

ChiefKujo

24 hours later, he starts this thread.

ChiefKujo agreed to why this thread was pulled. I do not blame him or flame him for his excitement of posting. But I think in retrospect, we must not underestimate our enemy.

Granted it gives certain operatives only an hour to act on such information, but I know his movements and the place. It does give an hour window. An hour at our President.

I do not bring this up to castigate ChiefKujo in anyway. I think its important that we remember this is a public forum.

You, "ican'tbelieveit", seem most interested in challenging my fortitude to try to silence me and others in your claim I would not allow the President to make such a trip. I have made no such claim at all either way. I do not fantasize about being president.

Instead, I agree that there was a breach in security, regardless of how small it was, and there it is in front of you.

I am very proud of our President and what he has done today. I am honored to be in the presence of men such as ChiefKujo who are truly risking thier lives on a day to day basis with this task. Today GWB proved he is willing to do the same. He inspires me.

But now, beyond a doubt in my mind, security was breached with this thread. and the danger to the CIC increased.

ican'tbelieveit, instead of us "recognizing" that some of us would not act in such a way as you have snidely suggested, why don't you recognize that you do not fully realize what we are up against and what the consequences of something so seemingly trivial at the time mean to the future of our country.

Loose lips sink ships
