Rush Calls Bush Like Nixon. Republicans cannot claim to be for small government.
Rush Live broadcast ^ | 11/25/03 | rushy

Posted on 11/25/2003 9:59:43 AM PST by Mark Felton

Rush has spent the last several minutes likening Bush to Nixon. Nixon gave us OSHA and the EPA. Bush is giving us Prescription Medicine benefits for seniors.

Rush says the Republican party cannot claim to be the party of smaller government.

This sounds likme the OLD Rush of 10 years ago!

Go Get Em Rush!

I usually tune in to Rush when his program begins, but if he starts to annoy me I turn him off and listen to Dennis Prager on streaming audio from KRLA in Los angeles.

I have been listening to Prager more and more during the last year or so.

Actually what you got was a couple demonstration programs to start in about 7 years. Those demonstration programs might or might not happen but one thing for sure socialized medicine has expanded and there is no question that the drug benefit will happen to the tune of trillions upon trillions of dollars in new entitlements.

God knows keeping a campaign promise is so much more important than following the Constitution. He swore on the Holy Bible to uphold that too. But polls are more important eh?

So, IOW, you are saying that you would say something during a campaign and then renege on that promise that got you elected.

Whew billy, remind me never to do business with you.

that was said with regards to the usual dismissal that his views recieve by posters like you when they're not pro Bush. So, you care to actually refute Rush's contention that Bush's spending habits are akin to Nixon's or are you going to continue to evade the question?

Uh Nixon signed a bill which put some of Medicare into privatization how?

I will wait for your and Rush's answer.

I'll probably hear crickets though.

"Oh, I'll probably hold my nose and vote for him (again) as the lesser of two evils, but it's rather disappointing, to be quite honest about it."

...but it's VERY disappointing, to me. I made a decision a few months ago, to no longer financially support the Republican Party. They have become ReDims!

I, too, will vote for W, and hold my nose...unless there is a viable alternative, and there is NO Dim I see that qualifies.

I also heard Rush's sick "rehab" comment... He really is cured, and is certainly Not a hypocrite... ! (sarcasm off)

and just heard W talking about the GREAT plan that the Senate just passed! Its the g'umt's responsibility to... take care of us!

And for those not listening, Rush is doing his best Al Gore impression with the "sighs" while GW is talking.

...is pure and simple vote buying...

maybe. But this was already promised and we all knew it and should not be surprised/panties in a knot.

I feel strongly that the opponents of this admin are hell bent on defeating the U.S. in order to regain power. The nation will be in peril if they do - at least if they do in 2004. By defusing the opposition with this victory on prescip drugs, W reminds the moderate voter (this is where you win national elections - see Clinton 92 and 96) that Compassionate Conservative is not a one-liner joke but really distinguishes him from the cold, mean, caricature the dems misrepresent him with. It does oddly fit the Deanosaur crowd these days, however. A 20 point win next November will do more for the U.S. economy and the War on Terror/Islamopsychos than anything else. This was a smart-bomb, right on target toward those ends.

"Rush has spent the last several minutes likening Bush to Nixon."

And well he should.
Even LBJ woulda been proud of Dubya's new prescription drug entitlement.

Say I stood up and promised practically everything in the world, knowing full well I didn't have the power to give it once in office if I were to follow my oath of office, which is more important? Following my oath of office or gaining votes by breaking my oath of office?

If Bush knew that he was going to swear on the Bible to follow his oath of office, he shouldn't have made promises as he did. Frankly, I hold breaking an oath a little higher than making statements on a campaign stump

Please cite the name, details and year such a bill was passed by Nixon as well as how 30 YEARS after its passage Medicare's been privitized to ANY extent?!!? Also, once again, please defend Bush's spending habits alongside its analogy to the Nixon Administration.

I've been listening and haven't heard him mention the word "Nixon". He has been making the point that this Medicare bill is wrong even though it is what Pres. Bush wants.

Did you hear him say that Tret Lott originally wanted to vote against it then some "representatives" from the Whitehouse came to him and said "The president really wants this bill, he really wants this bill" and that was the end of that discussion.

Free Republic posters have the standard motto: "Republican gooooood. Everyone else, baaaaaaaaad."

A calumny, sir! Some of us say: "Republicans baaaaaaaaad. Everyone else, wuuuuursss."

I don't agree with the Nixon analogy at all, but agree this bill is a bad idea. We ALREADY have too many entitlement programs, and I'd feel a LOT better about this $4 billion dollar bill if it meant all useless, failed, porky programs were going to be summarily axed to pay for it.

Privatization would have been better. I know we have to start somewhere, but think this bill is going to cause more problems than it fixes.

(Spell checker?? COOL!)

Reckon if He had voiced his opposition before the votes in Congress it might have been more creditable.

Plus, there are the Medical Savings Accounts.

Oh, I'm sure politically this is a slam dunk home run.
Problem is while it may help win an election next year we're saddled with this for a lifetime. What price to put on the American working people to win?
You mention Clinton 92&96, he won pretty good victories without any where near this kind of Gov't expansion. This things going to cost Trillions and I don't even think it's necessary.
Pure and simple vote buying.

Rush is right. And, I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but I'm beginning to believe my John Bircher friends know what they're talking about re: the fact that Bush is no limited government conservative.

Truth wins over time.
