Lost Kennedy tapes Dallas WBAP 820 AM: Running to the Hill
Me
Posted on 11/22/2003 11:15:28 AM PST by Treeless Branch
I live in Dallas and am listening to WBAP, which is re-broadcasting its braodcast from the day Kennedy was killed. Very interestng. First eyewitness interviewed by WBAP claims there were 2 shots fired from the hill (i.e. grassy knoll). She then says that she ran towards the hill where the shots were fired in order to see who fired the shots. I find this revealing because people who support the lone gunmen theory always support their position by stating that shots could not have come from the grassy knoll because the eyewitneses ran towards the knoll, i.e. why would someone risk their lives by running towards where shots were being fired from? Apparently, this first eyewitness gives the answer: to find the gunmen.

With buildings all around, I wouldn't put much stock in that. I've been in situations where I've mistaken where a sound is coming from.

FYI- the tapes are being broadcast in real time, and reveals the confusion and early rumors of the day.

What you miss here is that there were extensive sound tests in the Dealy Plaza area fom all points and it was shown that sound reflection would cause people in some locations to hear the shot from a false origin. The making of the argument that it couldnt be from the GK because the onlookers ran that direction is neither here nor there. It is merely a logical surmise and holds NO weight against measurements and physical evidence.

I heard a live interview the other day with Dallas detective Leavelle who said they interviewed 21 eyewitnesses right after it happened and swears no one mentioned shots fired from the grassy knoll until years later, I guess they never got a statement from this person on the radio. Leavelle was also the one handcuffed to Oswald the day he was shot.

Be careful about lending too much credence to that report. I'm a hunter, and I'm constantly amazed at how much effect valleys and hills have on the travel of sound (trying to figure the origin of a gunshot is difficult in hilly terrain). Buildings would likely distort the origin of sound even more.

Dallas Morning Snooze had partial interview with the motorcycle cop who was right behind the car when JFK's head blew. Poor soul had to ride through the pink cloud and ended up with bits of greymatter stuck to his own head...Yuck! Anyway he states he went immediately to the GK to see if anyone was there with a firearm, and saw no suspects. Also the railway guys on top of the overpass said there were no strangers up top with them.

I'm constantly amazed at how much effect valleys and hills have on the travel of soundYes....sound can be weird.
My stereo is at the end of a longish rectangle of a room that includes my kitchen off to the side creating a bird's eye view "L" shape.
I was at the stove off in the kitchen listening to "Little Village".
As usual, it sounded like music being played in the adjacent room with sound "blowing past" the open area leading back into the main sound room.
All of a sudden, I hear a Ry Cooder guitar note coming OVER and BEHIND my RIGHT shoulder about as far away from speakers as possible. Now since the speakers themselves were blocked by two walls it could NOT have been a direct note from them, but an echo that sounded EXACTLY like a true note.
Now the weird thing is that this is repeatable. I can cue up the disc...run back into the kitchen...stand at the stove....and when Ry hits that note it will always sound like a fresh note coming over my shoulder.
I imagine if I put up a new painting or rearrange the furniture, this effect will end....but it's pretty cool.

I was listening to this also in my car at 1:30 when they re-enacted the announcement of President Kennedy's death. Again, this republican cried. Politics aside, no one should die this way.

That is exactly right. I have been to Dealey Plaza many times and it is almost semi-cavern like. The echos on that day would produce many different views from ear wittnesses as to where the shots came from. But the fact remains that 3 guys directly below Oswald on the fifth floor heard the shots come from directly below them and even heard the sound of the bolt action.

Whoops, make that "they heard the shots come from directly ABOVE them" and not directely BELOW them! My mistake.

The people who ran up the sidewalk steps did so in order to watch the limo go up Stemmens Freeway to Parkland.
If this lady went up to the fence to see a gunman, she obviously didn't find him.

They also heard the brass hit the floor. The floor was heavy planking with cracks between the boards. One even described the light from the sixth floor.
