Shit. I was hoping they'd stay together long enough to pay the marriage penalty come April 15....

Even in the gay community, they talk about the mythical gay couple. It is just not very common for gay relationships to last.

The hetero average isn't much longer.
It's only the child support payments that last.

Further quote from the article: "It also found that men in homosexual relationships have an average of eight partners a year outside their main partnership, adding more evidence to the "stereotype" that homosexuals tend to be promiscuous."
Dang, I don't think my wife would tolerate that many (or even one) girlfriends/year.

I don't know any Male to Male "marriages", but I do know quite a few female to female ones.
The Females that "do the ceremony" even though it's not recognized by the state, tend to stay together for 5+ years. I do know one circumstance where two females "married" and the one ignored it within 6 months. I know quite a few lesbians and of all of them, I'd say it's no better or worse than Male female marriages.
I'm against gay marriage however. Marriage is between a Man and a Women. I don't give a rats about what two people do at home, but don't expect me recognize unnatural acts as something to be cherised.

The last figures for hetero marriage I heard was twenty years ago, when the average marriage lasted 6 years. I doubt it is much better today. Perhaps man/wife marriages should be disallowed because of high turnover, too.

In other words, homosexual marriages last about three times longer than Hollywood marriages.

I've never quite understood what is being compared in these studies, particularly when people start talking about longevity of gay relationships to heterosexual marriages - since there are no gay marriages, it seems like an invalid comparison. The straight marriages are really only a subset of straight relationships, and given that they're people that have specifically chosen to stay together, they are almost guaranteed to be the longest relationships.
If you really want to compare gay vs. straight relationship lengths, you need to include all straight relationships (wives, girlfriends, etc.). Even in my own experience - and I'm far from being a player - I'd bet that the average length of all my relationships is not more than 1.5 years, if that.

What's the hetero average?
