I lay awake in bed for three hours straight this Thursday, panicking that I have become way too choosy when it comes to blind dates. After all, isn't New York full of lonely women in their 30s who think no one is good enough?

Thanks -- you're the first to comment on it! For those that don't catch the reference, there was a novel by Philip K. Dick called "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" upon which the movie "Blade Runner" was based. I changed it a little, and now it has a slightly dirtier and somewhat stereotypical connotation (as the best humor usually does). But, to a prior poster's point, I doubt many liberal women would find my tag line amusing. They'd call me Xenophobic, racist, hate-filled, etc. To hell with them.

Another confused '70s child, with no compass nor star to guide her. The three criteria which she set for her date amounted to absolutely nothing and could be satisfied by any one of the millions of smooth-talking, testosterone-filled jerks who presently inhabit the planet. Unfortunately, the good lady seems to believe that she is some sort of perceptive, highly selective, Y chromosome connoisseur.

The one critical word missing from her essay is "character". My experience of women like Ms Harrison is that they have little or none of it themselves and as a result value it little in others. They are thus extremely poor judges of it. Much more important is to meet someone "dashing", "handsome", "amusing" or some equally vacuous attribute, such as the ones she set (e.g. being able to rescue her from the Kalahari).

Ms. Harrison, before you splash out that amount of money on a guy, talk and listen to him and get a feeling for the sort of person he is, rather than spending the evening trying to impress him by acting hip and cool.

I didn't say I'd have GOOD chances, merely better chances. I was being a bit hyperbolic there. The larger point is that I might as well go there for myself -- and to hell with dating. At least for the meantime. Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana are also good candidates. I want to be in a place where I'm judged for my character, where I can speak my mind and not be censured or censored, and where I can be a man (even if there are no women around to see it). I'd rather be a single man than a married eunuch (metaphorically speaking).
