A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Chief Disruptor of Free Republic
Chad Fairbanks

Not so long ago, Free Republic had a fascinating series of thread on this lively topic: which Free Republic name would you search on in order to see what they’re participating in and what they’re saying?   In short, were you inclined to stalk, who would be your guide to interesting threads?

If you read the thread, you'd be sure to note that a lot of people said Chad Fairbanks.   Bit of a wise guy, he is, in both senses of the word.

What can you say about a guy who posts something wise accompanied by a tag line such as

“There’s an armadillo in my pants.”

Hmmm.   Perhaps the armadillo has had too much to drink?
Nah, Chad's just having fun.   Chad Fairbanks is a disruptor in a good kinda way.

Jigsaw, most honored Freeper and keeper of the famed Taglinus FreeRepublicus threads on funny taglines, gives the verdict: "Chad has an amazing sense of humor and his taglines are consistently clever."   The man, the myth, the armadillo . . . .    Let’s learn more.

Well, except about the armadillo . . . .   I think we already have way too much information about THAT situation.

A politically precious youth
Chad Fairbanks has had a very cool youth, which, I must say by the likes of his posts, has extended well into adulthood!

He started getting involved in politics at a pretty early age.
From the time I was 10, I was reading the morning paper everyday before school.  The Manchester [N.H.]Union Leader was a pretty good way to start the day. Ever the rebel, I went against my democrat parents wishes and worked on Reagan's campaign in 1984.
Ah, Democratic parents!  You’d *have* to have a well-developed sense of humor in that situation.  Chad Fairbanks helped the Reagan campaign by stuffing envelopes, making phone calls, going door to door handing out literature and other tasks.
There I was, a 14-year old long-haired denim and leather metalhead, going door to door handing out Reagan/Bush campaign literature. I dont' really know why people were so shocked ;0)

More fun in the Navy
On to the Navy he went, where he was able to participate in a less traditional political events.

“I had a blast using firehoses on Greenpeace activists who were interfering in Trident II missile tests.”

Ah man, this guy's lived our dreams!

Cool.

Very cool.
Chad Fairbanks had been working on George Bush Sr.'s campaign prior to entering the Navy.  He says he was “working actively in his campaign while I was in the delayed entry program for the Navy.”
As he prepared to cast his first vote in a presidential election for President Bush, he knew he was the only person in his family who was registered as a Republican.  Gotta have a tough skin for that kinda situation.  Think: rebel with a cause.
We shall briefly pass upon those dark years known as the "Clinton years" in the smallest of print so as not to sadden our cheerful thread.  One of the reasons Chad Fairbanks deserves to be One of Freeper’s Finest today is that he’s kept the activism going in different venues through different stages of his life.  When Clinton was elected, he could tell which way the wind was blowing --

and so he chose to hide in the state of Washington.  With one toddler, and another baby on the way, politics took a backseat for a while, understandably.

But political retirement was not for him.  He discovered talk radio, and the next thing he knew, in 1994, he was participating in Seattle’s HillaryCare protest! Now he mixes job and family responsibilities with Republican party work. He is involved in George W. Bush's re-election campaign and has just joined Dino Rossi's campaign for governor as well as George Nethercutt's Senate campaign here in Washington State.

Playful and Ubiquitous (look it up!)
Chad Fairbanks is very participatory on the FR threads.

A bit of a prankster, Chad Fairbanks posts are often graced by curious, nay alarming, tag lines, designed to provoke and amuse.

Examples:

Madness takes its toll. Luckily, I have exact change ready...

Matt: "Ye should salt the Earth, lest it lose it's flavour"

Some days, it's just not worth gnawing through the straps...

For mad scientists who keep brains in jars, here's a tip: add a slice of lemon for freshness.

If Love Is Blind, Why Is Lingerie So Popular?

How do I feel about Women's Rights? I like BOTH sides of them...

If Beauty is only Skin Deep, then Damn, she had thin skin...

Software isn't released, it's allowed to escape.

Housework is a snap, since I realized, "Hey! I'm a guy!"

So, I'm in the park wondering why frisbees get larger as they get closer when suddenly, it hits me.

The wages of sin are death, but by the time FICA and SSI are taken, it's just sorta tired feeling.

A word to the wise ain’t necessary, it is the stupid ones who need all the advice.

Francis Scott Key was a One-Hit Wonder.

Fun, huh?  Again, I’m not encouraging anyone to actually stalk him here at Free Republic, hee hee, but, um, if you were trying to find out where the action was on Free Republic, you could do worse than search to find out where Chad Fairbanks has been recently. I have to agree, Chad Fairbanks’ presence in a thread is a good indicator of a quality thread.

How is this done? Chad explains:
Well, I get pinged to so many threads, it's often hard to keep up with all the information that is coming at me. You can pretty much find me on any type of thread at any given time - I try to at least read everything that I am pinged to, and participate as I can. It's gotten to the point where I don't have to actively seek out threads that interest me, because other FReepers ping me to them.
Ah, you just have to know people.

Here’s an example of Chad Fairbank’s playful thought process at work. His name is not really “Chad.” He just wanted a unique Freeper name, one that was interesting but wouldn't be easily dated or obsoleted. Here’s how he solved this problem:
So, one day I said to myself, "Why not choose a first name based on an African country, and a last name based on an Alaskan city?" I considered "Rhodesia Juneau", "Zimbabwe Kodiak", "Libya Nome" etc... before I finally settled on my current one.

Media Bias
One of his big conservative issues is liberal bias in the media:
So many people read the papers, or watch the news and believe they are getting the full unbiased story, and it's frustrating when I know they are not. My goals are to get more and more conservative outlets for views, such as conservative newspapers or news websites, conservative radio, conservative music, conservative books, etc.
If I may get serious just for a second, Chad Fairbanks' use of Free Republic is just as Jim Robinson intended: he views Free Republic for all the Right reasons: it's an all-in-one resource for him, where he can keep up-to-date on national and world events.  "More importantly, it also keeps me up to date with all that is happening locally. I've met some really great like-minded people locally through Free Republic, and that has gotten me more involved in social and political activism.”

So, for media bias, that means Chad Fairbanks does more than just post here.  A little bird named Libertina has told us that he has signed up for video taping classes so he can get a show going on Public Access TV and make the liberal's lives more uncomfortable ;

Libertina, his Puget Sound chapter leader, reports: "Chad has two cute daughters, is a good dad, an active FReeper, and a tireless bundle of energy."  Thanks for what you do, Chad Fairbanks, and God Bless you!

Oh yes, let's talk about media bias.  Here's Chad Fairbanks' spin: “But, other than that, I don't do much politically.”  LOL!  He actually said that!!  All Chad Fairbanks dodge there has done has added humility to his list of FReeper virtues.

Or maybe it was that armadillo doing the talking.

They don't put you on the Executive Team of the Free Republic Network's Board of Directors for nothing, Chad (do they?).  Congrats about that.  Chad Fairbanks is an active, active guy.  Trousers trouble or no, he's the guy you want squirting the Greenpeace activists!

Out and About in the Real World
Chad Fairbanks reports that he has participated “actively in the Puget Sound Chapter under the incredible leadership of Libertina” – we love her too!

Our FRiend Libertina returns the compliment:
Chad is a sweetie! Chad is a walking one-liner. . . . . Why on earth he has armadillos in his trousers is another matter though. :)
Libertina gives an example of his humor: "He was telling his wife that he would be considered quite a catch in some circles.   She replied "Yes, in crop circles."

Well, stands to reason we haven’t heard the last of our Alaskan/African-named Freeper friend.  Coolest of Freeper dudes, you are truly . . .

    One of Freeper's Finest!

Appaloosas are cool.

I worked on a ranch when I was a kid where they had an awesome one. He had a great stop on him.

I had several ponies for my kids when they were growing up.

One of the greatest experiences of my lif was raising a colt for two years. He was huge, but a gentle giant who had human contact daily. When it was time to ride him, I was able to just climb up & ride. I just loved that guy.

I couldn't afford to keep him, and ended up donating him to a group called Equest, which match horses with handicapped kids. They assigned Beamer to a 12 yr old paraplegic girl who is training to actually jump with him! I get pics occasionally, one of her in her wheelchair with a soapy sponge bathing him brings tears to my eyes.... I know I made the right decision.

That was a really great thing to do. We couldn't afford ours after a while, too. Being the savage that I am, I was never happier in my childhood than when I was out riding on the trails through the woods... ahhhh... fun times.

But what you did was a hell of a thing... :0)
