Prayer request for my 4 yr old daughter
me | 11/13/03

Posted on 11/13/2003 12:22:32 PM PST by truthandlife

I am asking a big favor from praying FREEPERS. I wanted you to start praying for my 4 year old daughter, Carly. We had an extensive hearing exam today and Carly has been diagnosed with sensor neural hearing loss. This results from damage to the delicate sensory hair cells of the inner ear or the nerves that supply blood to it. This hearing loss can range from mild to profound. She is in that mid range of hearing loss right now but could progress further. It can progress or stop progressing but it cannot be reversed. It is permanent (unless God miraculously heals her).

I am asking for prayers on a few issues: First, I ask for you to pray for her sensor neural hearing loss to stop. She can still hear reasonably well but she will have a dificult time distinguishing certain sounds without the help of a hearing aid. Second of all, I ask for you to pray for the wisdom of the doctors to find out the cause of her hearing loss. It could be a number of things. I would also like for you to pray for a miracle to happen (God willing) for a reversal of this hearing loss. The last thing is to pray for wisdom and peace for my wife and I. Especially pray for my wife who is pregnant and very emotional at this time.

Thanks for your prayers and we know that "And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose." (Romans 8:28 )

It's a great prayer that comes from our early church heritage so we all can claim it.

Our Father, we thank You for wonderful gift You have given to our friends. You are the giver of all good things and and we bless you for giving this little life.

But this loved one is very sick. We ask that you might hear our prayer for the healing of this little body. You are the great healer and with You nothing is impossible. You power is great and Your love is precious and Your plan is perfect. We pray that it may be Your will to make this wonderfully precious little child well again. We thank you for the gifts You have given to the medical profession and we ask You to bless their efforts in this situation. We acknowledge that ultimately healing must come from you so we leave this dear child in your loving arms. May the arms of the One who called children to Him on earth surround this precious child and give healing and life. We ask for grace to pray that Your will be done.

You see the tears of mother and father and family; You know their fears that shake their faith. Grant them Your presence and Your peace every day. Strengthen them as they turn to You.

In Jesus's wonderful Name we pray.

Amen

God bless your family. May the Good Lord guide and comfort you through this challenge. I worked for ten years as an interpreter for the deaf. I found that people who are hard of hearing can function very well with the help of hearing aids. You are fortunate in many ways; for one thing your daughter has already learned to speak. I understand your frustration and anxiousness. And it is my prayer that your daughter will not need even hearing aids - In Jesus' Name - Amen.

My son was diagnosed with the same problem when he was two years old. It was devastating to us at the time. He had to be fitted with hearing aids which was a big expense. (At five he accidentally took a bath with them on. GRRR)

My wife and I determined at that time we did not want him in any way to feel sorry for himself. Every year we fight with the school system that he be placed with all the other children. We have a form letter we give his teachers explaining his condition. While he need some special considerations they are not unreasonable (He needs to sit close to the front and the teacher must "talk to the class" and not talk while writing on the blackboard.)

There have been times when he starts the old "pity me" routine. We tell him we both wear glasses and it is NO different. That snaps him out of it. At 10 years he's a straight "A" student and well adjusted. Fortunately his hearing has not deteriorated.

BTW-Freepers will enjoy this. According to federal law, all disable children in the country are to have an Independent Evaluation Program (IEP) teacher assigned to them to monitor their progress. You can wave out of the program but then you have a problem getting them back in. We have stayed in the program for all the FREE GOVERNMENT HANDOUTS that we my get!!! (Actually we refuse to take any.)

Good luck and may God bless.
