Europeans Outlaw Net Hate Speech

Council of Europe has adopted a measure that would criminalize Internet hate speech, including hyperlinks to pages that contain offensive content.

Specifically, the amendment bans "any written material, any image or any other representation of ideas or theories, which advocates, promotes or incites hatred, discrimination or violence, against any individual or group of individuals, based on race, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin, as well as religion if used as pretext for any of these factors."

I wonder if these prohibitions will extend to desperate Europeans trying to "out" Islam and reverse their oncoming calamity?

The antis claim sites like FORCES, etc contain offensive material because FORCES pinpoints the offensive content of the antis sites.

It also obliquely refers to the Holocaust, outlawing sites that deny, minimize, approve or justify crimes against humanity, particularly those that occurred during World War II.

Wonderful, so now we are guilty of hate speech when we try to remind people that Hitler was very anti-smoker and anti-smoking and used that to discriminate against people based upon sex and ethnic origin. Or will the antis be guilty of the hate speech when they refer to us as being as bad as the nazis because SHS kills so many...........?

Will OConnor give deference to the EU law over the US Consititution. The notion that is said she would consider it is offensive. Occonnor and Ginsberg have similar concepts on this issue.

There is no first amendment in the EU. There is not second amendment in the EU. Heck, there is no THIRD amendment in the EU. and so on.

They are and they do. Quite effectivly. There is no fox or conservative media as we know it in the EU zone. The cross EU news is only Euronews TV, CNNeurope, and BBC. All with more leftism that makes CNN USA look anti-clinton. Positive stories for the USA are verboten unless it is a positive story about an american's funeral or homosexuals in the USA.

They still teach history of 1776 as if the USA is just a breakaway thirteen disperate colonies. They do not, contrary to popular myth, know who the USA works. Also contrary to popular myth, not all students in european k -high school are rocket scientists.

In fact in some countries, being on the internet is still expensive because your LANDLINE is paid by the MINUTE like a cell phone. It keeps the internet out of practical reach of many. It is also hard to buy a computer for communicating ideas when you only make 300-400 euro's a MONTH. (before expenses)

European nations will forever surpress free speech because it works.

You are exactly right. I can't imagine that the thought police in Europe are trying to shut any speech it doesn't like in the face of the US Constitution. I guess I'm kind of like you. We are the unwashed so what do we know? Quite frankly I would like to see them try! Especially here!

With all the hate groups that abound in the EU for one reason or another. (they make US groups look like romper room) It seems like this is directed at anti-EU and anti-Euro currency speech.

Hmmmm, what are they hiding? can you say another eurostat scandal? (there have be two so far. It would be as if Greenspan was caught with three sets of financial books and a hotline to his brokers in NY.)

Hmmm. So if you called for a boycott against the French for example, this would be illegal. If you had a website that linked to FR this would be illegal. If you published a blog that said "The Israelis should crack down on the Palestinians" this would be illegal. If you had a website that supported your country going to war against another country...

This is the break point... the reason the 1st Amendment comes first.

Once the bad guys succeed in criminalizing dissent, the chance to work for freedom within the system is over.
