However, Gephardt's 7-percentage-point lead over Dean in the Iowa Poll appears a little wobbly. More of Dean's supporters say their minds are made up and they are certain of their participation in the Democratic caucuses, which launch the presidential nominating season for the nation.

Yesterday Drudge had a funny picture of Gephardt up!
I can't find it now!

I'm rooting for Dean. Gephardt has two things going for him that Dean doesn't have which would make him a tougher opponent for W; A brain and contacts.

Even with Dean picking up the Union nods, it looks like Gephardt will do very well in Iowa. I think after the Iowa Caucus, if Gephardt scores with 5 points of Dean, many Democrats supporting players like Kerry and Edwards will change teams and work for Gephardt just to stop Dean.
If Gephardt finishes no worse than third in New Hampshire and can get at least 3 other candidates to drop within 24 hours, he will hit South Carolina on a roll and could win that state. If that's the case, look for the Democrats to have a nasty fight the following week as Dean and Gephardt slug it out.
I would rather face Dean in November, but Gephardt may be able to pull out a victory over Dean. Not what I would enjoy, but that's how I see it as of now.

Gosh I hope he does get the nomination. Gephardt has been "running" for President since 1988 and he is the closest thing to Pat Paulsen that we have in the 21st century. A Bush-Gephardt race in '04 is proof that the Democrats have no one to put forward and are a party bereft of leadership.

Gephardt was smart to stay out of that stupid rock the vote thing. It hurt everyone who attended and made them look silly and common.

I've thought all along Gephardt will win. He came out very strongly against exporting jobs to other countries, a resonating issue with many.

I love that picture!

Johnathan Roos wouldn't know where to find an objective person in his wildest dreams.
I believe I read elsewhere in yesterday's DM Register there's a plus or minus 4.5 (which, if correct, seems high to me), so these results do show honest movement. However, what no one is saying is the impact Leiberman's withdrawal had on this poll.
It's fairly clear to me, that Joe's supporters have moved into Geppy's camp. Given the 4.5 plus or minus, the moving pretty much explains the gain.

He also worked to encourage domestic job creation with the Democrat induced tax cuts.
To: ConservativeMan55
I heard a commercial for him being on Hardball tonight, "to tell the American people why he should be the next President."
To: I still care
Yeah, his issue has always been jobs. If we don't have an upswing in employment in the next quarter, it may be an issue he can hang a hat on. If the job market makes a sizable recovery, he will be stuck with the prescription and medicare angle, and that is just a lousy platform for him.

Bummer.
Gephardt -is- the best guy in the lineup of dwarves the Dems have.
By "best" I mean that he's the only one that I think could make it through Nov 2004 without making the entire election an absolute circus. He's the only one who hasn't completely and overwhelmingly embarassed themselves already. He's got a lot of union backing.
Frankly, he's probably the most dangerous opponent Bush could have in the whole lineup. He's the only one I think -could- win in 2004. Any of the other candidates winning the nomination (including Hillary if she dropped in) would utterly implode themselves before 11/04. Bush wouldn't even have to do anything before they buried themselves with flip flops, insults to a broad base of voters and just general lunatic statements.
Gephardt is the only one in the bunch I consider too smart to simply implode on their own.

I think Lieberman would have more of a chance than Gephardt.
But I don't believe any of them will win. Bush will win.
