[history]
The signal from National Public Radio just got a lot stronger, in more ways than one.
NPR has received a gift of more than $200 million from Joan Kroc, the widow of McDonald's founder Ray Kroc. She died Oct. 12, leaving NPR with the largest monetary gift ever received by an American cultural institution.

If I'm not mistaken, Ray Kroc lost control of Micky D's in the early 70's.
All that was left to show for his founder status was the money he got from his stock, which his widow just pi$$ed away by giving it to "National Progressive Radio".
Oh well, now Congress can stop giving my tax dollars to support this leftist organization.

Susan Stamberg says the bequest has rendered her speechless. If only....
The socialists at NPR sneer at big business and now it's the profits of big business which will fill NPR's coffers to overflowing. Ray Kroc's savvy apparently did not rub off on the Mrs.

The donation was "a reminder that we in Congress must continue to provide critical support for local publicly owned radio stations, the heart of public radio," noted Rep. Earl Blumenauer, Oregon Democrat and chairman of the Congressional Public Broadcasting Caucus. No, it's a reminder that NPR no longer needs tax payer dollars. I know I wouldnt the moment someone dropped 200 million in my lap.

Good. Then they don't need my tax dollars.

The private nonprofit's annual operating budget is about $100 million. Its membership includes 750 independent radio stations scheduled to receive $86 million from the congressionally funded Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in the next year. $86 million of the $100 million operating budget comes from taxpayers????? But I always heard that NPR was 92% listener supported, only 8% came from taxpayers. Another lie from the left. Gee, Im surprised.

Exactly! NPR doesn't need our money.
Now if we could take over NPR and install a clone of Roger Ailes.... I like that, Tony Snow and Walter Williams and Brit Hume, but with little musical interludes between the segments, and only brief little ads. Not bad.
Hey, the liberals have taken over (hijacked) countless organizations that were originally intended to have a conservative bent. Henry Ford would have converted his wealth to cash and burned if he had known how liberal his foundation would become.

Can you imagine working your whole life to leave your money to some birdbrain who'd actually turn it over to NPR????
This has created a giant imbalance in nature, a disturbance in the Force. Where's Obi Juan when you really need him?

What did you expect from the wife of a great man, sanity?
She didn't earn it, but unlike others, for instance Andrew Carnegy, JP Morgan, and many others they all donated their money earned by capitalism to further the cause of socialism.
Remember when Sam Walton [Of Wal-Mart fame] use to advertise "Buy American?"
Guess old Sam is spinning in his grave because now it is I love China, and F the good old USA.

I guess NPR and the libs forgot that money could be used to balance the budget, shore up social security, help the homeless, buy old people medicine, improve education, pay for abortions, send illegal aliens to college, get Barbara Boxer another facelift.........oh wait, that's what they want to spend MY money on, nevermind.

Wonderful. I'm all for liberals giving their own money to fund liberal causes. Now NPR doesn't need to be on the public dole, so cut them off.
To: JohnHuang2
I find this amazing. I very seldom listen to NPR but it might be an interesting FR project to see how much suppoort NPR gives to current PETA and other efforts to put McDonald's out of business. The company is under liberal assault for allegedly contributing to American obesity, for underpaying its labor (always a target of minimum wage attacks) and for its use of meat. While liberalism seems to have no qualms about accepting profits from such an enterprise, it might be important for us to point out any hypocrisies resulting from this gift. Tax-supported liberal radio and TV must be de-funded.

That's $200 million less they ought to get from Uncle Sam.

The big question is how many coffee mugs and "Three Tenors" videos she got for a $200 million donation...
