"Order by post time" rocks. "Order by relevance" sucks.

Does anyone actually prefer the "order by relevance" default on the FR search feature?

It is VERY annoying when doing searches. I can't think of a single time that I found the default "relevance" function to be preferable to the "time" option.

Would it be terribly difficult to:

(1) Change it globally in the FR software, or, (2) Allow the "time" option in personal preferences?

Order by time only goes back so far. Sometimes older threads can only be found by a relevance search.

it would be neat if personal preferences could create "skins" for FR.

If you look at the bottom of your " My Preferences" page found on your "Personal Menu" there are three choices. But they don't seem to work, they are marked "(Experimental)". I recall there was some experimentation with "skins" a while back, but I don't know what happened to the idea. Probably some other priority that was more functional won out JohnRob's time.

Try searching for the FULL title of this thread by the default relevance ordering and you'll see that the topic has previously been discussed.

The search engine works best if you put as many related words in the field, including full titles (real or imagined--it doesn't need exactly titles.) It will fail miserably if you search for only one or two words. The more the merrier.

I'm positive people do not realize this is a feature of the search engine. Each time I've seen a duplicate post, I've searched for the FULL title and found the first posting of the thread almost always as the first result.

The titles (headlines) are changed by the different news companies.
The best way to avoid dupe posts is to serch recently for a few keywords.

I've slways thought you had "relevence" as the default for the benefit of newbies and lurkers who were looking for information about a subject.
People who post should already know how to search for dupes IMHO.
