Howard Dean's wife Judith Steinberg accompanies Dean and their son Paul to a courtroom hearing last month. This was a rare public appearance by the former first lady of Vermont. Shown at right is a publicity photo released by the Dean Campaign.

She is a tree-hugger model, just a little surprised that she doesn't have a denim jumper on with a little turtleneck that says something quirky and liberal.

Wait...your presuming alot. Perhaps it was Mrs. Dean who preferred not to put herself OUT THERE. I'm sure as a Dr. she's pretty busy.

Thanks for your answer, very interesting. Just to add one point though. Barbara Bush has twinkling eyes...she looks like a kindly Grandmother. Which would not hurt a presidential nominee as much as a very overweight woman or a homely woman with zero visual appeal. I am not arguing your point about the "shallowness" of these men in any way.

Why should her looks matter. For the same reason John Edwards is running for president. What's good for the gander is good for the goose.

That's flow discrimination, Nita. Okay, okay, you're right. We'll give him an honorary spot on the committee. ;-)

NO....what does she look like...never seen her! Mrs. Edwards used to be fat fat fat. Now she's not.
This is her slimmed-down version:
"Honey, I can't take you around the campaign trail if you're a fatass. You're gonna need to lose that extra 50 pounds, otherwise people won't pay attention to my speeches, they'll just think, 'What's that handsome guy with great hair doing with a fat pig?' You don't want them asking that, do you honey? All you have to do is have some surgery, live on celery for a couple months, and run 'til your fat little feet can't take any more. Will you do that for me?" -- John Edwards (paraphrased)

Agreed. We were livid when the democrats and the lamestream media made disparaging comments about Katherine Harris, so how can we support acting this way towards Dean's wife?

I think women commenting upon other women's looks belongs to the same category as "I'm black so I can use the
n-word." I've grown and changed and hopefully acquired a little wisdom as I've aged. In the past (ashamedly and unfortunately) I bought into more of the feminist agenda than I'd like to admit. So I have some experience with the "sisterhood." It can close ranks pretty quickly. Especially the liberal sisterhood. They already have the perception that white males have run the world thinking of women as nothing but sex objects for too long. Threads like this confirm their view.
Do we care if some find the name calling offensive. Maybe not - I can certainly not read the thread if it really upsets me.
I would just say that there are women out there not happy with the whole liberal agenda. They're looking around starting to think about not voting a straight Democrat ticket. But it's scary...because of all of the indoctrination about the 'mean' 'heartless' right-wingers. Encouraging them to think independently is difficult when they see threads like this - it's easy for them to run right back to familiar white men are evil sexist's ground:)

I have this theory that the reason successful liberal men marry unattractive feminist women is because unattractive feminist women have no romantic options and thus will let their husbands fool around.
Not that I'm judging Ms. Steinberg's looks or Mr. Dean's fidelity, I just thought I'd mention that as an aside.

Now what is one of the easiest ways to tick off a woman, or get her to consider you 'mean': criticize her looks. So I guess we're not going to get Ms. Steinberg's vote. But the fact is, women criticize other women's looks all the time, and they're much meaner about it than men. For example, Rush has commented that in his opinion Hillary Clinton actually is attractive, while certain female FReepers seem obsessed with Hillary's 'fat ankles' -- a feature which few if any of us male FReepers have ever bothered to notice.

You wear a turtleneck with something quirky and liberal written on it? Didn't mean to offend, it just seems to be the uniform of tree-huggers.
